As a patient registrar, you check in and register patients, process billing, and provide customer support at a healthcare clinic, hospital, or similar medical facility. Your job duties include explaining forms to patients, handling payment for medical services, and verifying insurance. You may also schedule appointments, collect and maintain sensitive health information, and help patients with billing or insurance questions. A career as a patient registrar typically requires at least a high school diploma or GED certificate and on-the-job training. Some employers may prefer candidates with postsecondary education, such as an associate degree in health information technology or medical assisting. Additional qualifications include prior experience in a medical setting, an understanding of medical coding and terminology, and excellent communication and computer skills.
