Position Overview
A yard parts puller is responsible for identifying, locating, and removing automotive parts from damaged or salvaged vehicles. The employee plays a critical role in the auto salvage industry by providing quality parts for repairs, ensuring efficient inventory management, and delivering excellent customer service. The parts puller's efficiency in extracting parts in a timely manner helps build customer loyalty and contributes to the organization's reputation for reliability and excellent customer service, which contributes to the organization's financial success.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  1. Production - Parts Pulling
  • Identify and remove parts from vehicles: The primary responsibility of a yard parts puller is to identify and remove parts from vehicles using tools.
  • Inspect parts for quality: yard part pullers are responsible for inspecting parts before they are removed from vehicles to ensure that they are in good condition and meet the organization's quality standards.
  • Wash parts: Depending on the site's policies, Part Pullers may need to clean parts before they are sold or added to inventory. This can involve using water and soap to wash off dirt and grime or using a solvent or degreaser to remove oil or other contaminants.
  • Notify the sales team of damaged parts: If damaged parts are found, the person in this role must communicate with the sales team to inform them of the damage. This includes identifying the part and providing details on the damage.

  • 1 year of automotive repair or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Forklift Certificate preferred.
  • Ability to drive yard vehicles.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to properly use hand and power tools to disassemble vehicles and remove parts.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across functions.
  • Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility and salvage yard for most of the workday.

  • Work in an area equipped with forklifts, chain hoists, and other tools as needed.
  • Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to operate basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Expected work hours are based on role and location.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as needed as determined by the employee's supervisor.
