Job description

Westchester Country Day School, a college preparatory PK–12 independent school in High Point, NC seeks a part time Technical Theater Coordinator to oversee the "behind-the-scenes" magic of our performing arts program. This role is perfect for a multi-talented technician who enjoys the variety of sound and lighting design but also possesses the carpentry skills to lead set builds. Most importantly, you must be excited about working in a school environment and helping students learn the ropes of technical theater.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage sound and lighting for school plays, musicals, concerts, assemblies, and special events.
  • Mix live audio and operate digital sound and lighting systems.
  • Design and implement lighting plots for a variety of performances.
  • Lead the construction, installation, and strike of scenic elements, ensuring safe practices at all times.
  • Maintain the scene shop, theater equipment, and AV systems across campus.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in performance and event spaces.
  • Train and supervise student technicians (grades 6–12).
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and professional backstage environment.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of technical theater experience.
  • Experience with live sound, lighting systems, and scenic construction.
  • Proficiency with digital audio consoles, lighting controls, and power tools.
  • Ability to read and build from technical drawings or renderings.
  • Strong commitment to safety, organization, and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working with students.
