What does a part time project coordinator do?

A Part Time Project Coordinator assists with planning, organizing, and managing specific projects within an organization, but on a part-time schedule. Their responsibilities often include coordinating meetings, tracking project progress, communicating with team members, and ensuring deadlines are met. They may also handle documentation, prepare reports, and help resolve issues that arise during the project lifecycle. By working part-time, they provide flexibility for both the organization and the employee while still contributing to project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time project coordinator?

To thrive as a Part Time Project Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, time management, and a solid understanding of project management principles, often supported by a bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with project management software (such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project) and basic office suite proficiency are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability help you coordinate tasks and collaborate across teams efficiently. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, stakeholders stay informed, and objectives are met despite limited working hours.

How do part time project coordinators typically manage communication and collaboration with full time team members?

Part-time project coordinators often rely on clear communication tools and scheduled check-ins to stay aligned with full-time team members. They may use project management software, emails, and video meetings to keep everyone updated and address any issues proactively. Flexibility and strong organizational skills are key, as part-time coordinators must balance their limited hours while ensuring timely progress on tasks and deliverables. Building strong relationships and setting expectations early helps facilitate smooth collaboration and prevents miscommunication.

Job description

Now Hiring: Assistant Project Coordinator
Boyd Jones is a growing general contractor with deep roots in Nebraska and Iowa and an expanding presence across the region. We build with purpose—commercial, industrial, and specialty construction projects that matter to our clients and the communities we serve. Our Urbandale office is growing, and we’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented professional to join the team as an Assistant Project Coordinator.
This is a part-time role (approx. 20-25 hours/week) added in response to our continued growth in the Des Moines market. You’ll work directly alongside our Project Coordinator to keep projects organized, compliant, and moving- making a real impact from day one.
This is a part-time position designed for someone who thrives in a structured, project-focused environment and is looking to build real-world construction experience alongside a collaborative team.
What You’ll Do
  • Keep project documentation organized, current, and audit-ready—contracts, submittals, RFIs, logs, and executed agreements.
  • Coordinate communication between our internal team, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Support meeting scheduling, agenda prep, and action item tracking.
  • Track compliance documentation—insurance certificates, bonds, licenses—and flag gaps promptly.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor onboarding documentation.
  • Support contract setup in Procore and Sage, and assist with project closeout activities.
What You Bring
  • 0–3 years of experience in project coordination, administrative support, or a related field; construction experience is a plus but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail—you catch things others miss.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore or similar platforms is a bonus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with a professional, service-oriented approach.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience is equally considered.
Why Boyd Jones
  • We’re a team that genuinely values partnership, stewardship, and continuous improvement—these aren’t just words on a wall.
  • You’ll have real responsibility and visibility from the start, not just busy work.
  • Collaborative culture with experienced construction professionals who invest in developing their team.
If you’re organized, eager to learn, and want to contribute to a team that builds with purpose—we’d love to hear from you.
