Job description

Job Title:Patient Registration Clerk
Department:Patient Access Services
Location: SLH - GH Main
Hours Per Week: Part-Time, Per Diem
Schedule:Day/Evening, Rotating Weekends 7a - 3:30p, 3:30p - 12a, 12a-8:30a, 9a to 5:30p

SUMMARY:

The Patient Registration Clerk provides customer-service and registration/switchboard services and assumes the responsibility for successful financial outcomes of all patient services. Under the general supervision of the Patient Access Services Manager, this position performs imperative duties including registration pre and full, insurance verification, switchboard and life support alarm coverage, data entry, and point-of-service collections, while maintaining patient relations, customer satisfaction, and hospital financial solvency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient Registration & Intake: Accurately interview patients and families to collect demographic, financial, and medical information; perform bedside, inpatient, emergency, and telephone registration while meeting established time standards and patient identification policies.

  • Insurance & Revenue Cycle Support: Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits; complete required Medicare and payer documentation; collect patient-pay balances; resolve registration errors; and ensure correct insurance loading and compliance with payer requirements.

  • Switchboard & Communications: Serve as hospital switchboard operator by professionally answering and routing calls, maintaining call schedules, paging providers, monitoring alarms, and providing directions and assistance to patients and visitors.

  • Customer Service & Safety: Deliver excellent customer service by welcoming patients, managing waiting areas, communicating wait times, maintaining confidentiality, addressing concerns, and identifying and reporting safety hazards or incidents.

  • Professional Development & Team Support: Participate in training, meetings, and performance improvement initiatives; assist with onboarding new staff; and contribute to departmental and organizational quality goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Associate's degree or higher in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field

  • At least 1-3 years of customer service, administrative, and/or data entry experience

  • 1-2 years of previous experience in hospital related field

  • Experience with database software applications

  • Medical Terminology

  • EHR Programs (e.g. Epic)

  • ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes and coding processes

  • Hospital billing processes and reimbursement

PAY RANGE:

$19.08 - $27.99

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
