About the Position:
The Office of Events Management at George Mason University's Mason Square campus in Arlington is ready to hire a Part-Time Event Assistant. Be part of a team of professionals who assist with the successful support and execution of events at the Mason Square campus.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides general audio/visual support for meetings, conferences, and events;
  • Verifies all equipment requests for events are set in the exact manner as described on the set-up report; this involves setting of tables and chairs and A/V equipment in accordance with reservation requests;
  • Operates and maintains a working knowledge of all A/V systems in Mason Square event venues;
  • Verifies A/V equipment is tested and fully operational before events begin;
  • Responds to and troubleshoots minor technical issues, and provides user support during events when required;
  • Delivers timely and effective support to event clients, responding promptly to all requests;
  • Ensures accurate and on time fulfilment of table and equipment delivery requests;
  • Completes regular building checks to retrieve and return event signage and equipment to storage;
  • Maintains order in all storerooms and ensures aisles and mechanical equipment areas are kept clear of equipment;
  • Ensures proper storage of plaza furniture and umbrellas in advance of inclement weather;
  • Assists management with event operations and execution requirements while ensuring compliance with Mason Square venue polices; and
  • Identifies maintenance discrepancies and/or damages within event spaces and reports them to the Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a high school graduate;
  • Understanding of audio/visual equipment used to support events and multimedia applications, audio/visual hardware configuration, conference A/V set-up, streaming platforms, knowledge of electronics used to support events, and a willingness to learn new skills;
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently with a diverse audience, including current university faculty and staff, alumni, donors, students, and the community;
  • Possess a strong customer service, time management, and organizational skillset with high attention to detail;
  • Must have excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Must be able to safely and independently move items up to 50 pounds; and
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least six-months experience working in an event venue operations support capacity;
  • Willingness to learn audio/visual and multimedia applications, conference A/V set-up, and streaming tools and platforms; and
  • Familiarity with higher education.
