Job description

 Reporting to the Paint Supervisor, the Paint Lead is primarily responsible for assisting the Supervisor in overseeing the Paint Line(s). This is a 1st Shift position. This person may perform all aspects of the Powder / Wet Paint Line, as well as give instruction to the Technicians assigned to the lines. This role is responsible for acting as a good role model for the rest of the development and for keeping the department organized and clean.


  • Paint Technician Lead will assist the Supervisor in directing and assisting in the work activities of Paint Line Technicians.
  • Work with the Paint Technicians to ensure the parts are racked correctly and schedule is being followed and on-time.
  • Will coordinate orders with material handling and work with Production Control to assure orders are ready for assembly.
  • Provide input on schedule to ensure maximum efficiency and on time delivery is met.
  • Keep informed of any changes and new procedures throughout the day to stay on schedule.
  • Communicate information, assisting in resolving problems and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor all equipment, pre-treatment, conveyors, wastewater treatment, cure ovens and assist powder room coordinator with trouble shooting application equipment.
  • Monitor all supplies within the department. Report shortages to the department supervisor.
  • Must be familiar with all Company’s policies on quality in relationship to packaging.
  • Assist with cost savings, continuous improvements and more efficient ways to run the paint operations.
  • Follow all company rules, policies and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with management and peers openly.
  • Ability to efficiently assist in leading a team and coordinate work with other departments.
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Basic Print reading and torque values.
  • Know when to escalate issues that require additional technical or leadership support.
  • Basic Computer knowledge.
  • High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a highly technical environment.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Previous experience working within a powder paint department.
  • Previous forklift experience.
  • Exposure to a Lean manufacturing environment.
  • General understanding of Metric and Standard systems.
  • Associates degree in related technical field preferred.
  • Prior lead experience, preferably in a painting process department or a powder coat paint department.
  • Microsoft Office skills. Ideal candidate would also have SAP experience
  • Certification in Waste Water treatment process.
