Job description

Position Summary

The Lead Painter is responsible for owning the job site from start to finish. This role combines advanced painting skills with leadership, communication, and accountability. The Lead Painter ensures projects are completed on time, on budget, and to Fresh Coat quality standards while delivering an excellent customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead and manage painters on assigned job sites
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure SOPs are followed
  • Set the tone for professionalism, safety, and efficiency

Quality & Production

  • Review project scope and work order before job start
  • Ensure proper prep, application, and finishing techniques
  • Perform final walkthroughs and touch-ups
  • Ensure work meets Fresh Coat standards before customer sign-off

Customer Communication

  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for customers
  • Clearly explain daily plans, progress, and timelines
  • Address customer questions or concerns professionally
  • Escalate issues to the Project Manager when needed

Job Site Management

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
  • Track materials and notify management of shortages
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used and stored properly
  • Take required job photos and documentation

Accountability & Reporting

  • Track crew hours and productivity
  • Report change orders, scope changes, or issues promptly
  • Support job costing accuracy and close-out procedures
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of professional painting experience
  • Prior experience leading crews preferred
  • Strong knowledge of interior and exterior painting systems
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage time, people, and materials effectively
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights
