Owen Industries is seeking an experienced Certified Structural Paint / Coating Inspector to support our structural steel fabrication and finishing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring industrial coating systems meet customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality requirements.

This position is open only to certified coating inspectors with hands-on experience inspecting industrial paint systems applied to structural steel.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Verify surface preparation (cleaning, profile, and readiness prior to coating)
  • Inspect application of epoxy primers, zinc-rich coatings, and multi-coat systems
  • Measure and document dry film thickness (DFT) and coating coverage
  • Verify environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) prior to and during coating
  • Identify, document, and issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) and red-tag material when coating requirements are not met
  • Maintain inspection records and traceability using quality software and handheld devices
  • Support coating documentation and quality records prior to shipment
  • Perform offsite inspections as required
  • Work closely with painting and production teams to resolve coating-related quality issues

Required Qualifications

  • Active coating inspection certification, such as:

    • SSPC Protective Coatings Inspector (PCI)
    • Other recognized industrial coating inspection certification
  • Proven experience inspecting industrial paint systems on structural steel
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Surface preparation standards
    • Coating application procedures
    • DFT measurement and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to read and interpret coating specifications and project requirements
  • Experience documenting inspections, NCRs, and corrective actions
  • Willingness and confidence to stop work when coating standards are not met

???? Applicants without current coating inspection certification will not be considered.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Structural steel fabrication and painting environment
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to heat, noise, and industrial conditions

Why Join Owen Industries

  • Inspect real structural steel coating systems, not light industrial paint
  • Be the final authority on coating quality
  • Work with experienced painters and production teams
  • Strong safety and quality culture
  • Stable fabrication environment with long-term projects

If youโ€™re a certified coating inspector who understands structural steel, surface prep, and industrial paint systemsโ€”and you take pride in enforcing the specโ€”we want to hear from you.

Apply today and help us deliver coatings that last.
