Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Job Description:
The University of Florida College of Dentistry is accepting applications for an OPS Dental Assistant to provide dental assisting and administrative support while contributing to high-quality student dentist education and patient care. Clinical Care Groups are a critical component of the UFCD TEAM Program, and this position is Patient-Centered and Student-Friendly, supporting the UFCD mission to deliver excellence in dental education and patient care.
Each Dental Assistant is assigned to a Clinical Care Group consisting of two TEAMS. The position requires strong general dentistry chairside assisting skills, proficiency with computer applications (Outlook, axiUm, Excel, Word, and Windows 7), and positive interpersonal skills.
Student Support:
  • Assist clinical staff in maintaining optimal working order of clinical equipment.
  • Collaborate with Dental Maintenance to ensure clinics are prepared for daily student use.
  • Conduct daily clinic surveillance to ensure compliance with infection prevention standards and promptly correct deficiencies (e.g., cleaning chairs, counters, sinks).
  • Maintain daily student attendance records and serve as an information resource at the emergency rally point.
  • Assist with student orientation to the clinical curriculum, including assessing infection prevention practices and general clinic safety.
  • Provide four-handed dentistry support to students during clinic sessions.
  • Assist dental students with proper radiographic exposure techniques as needed.

Patient Care:
  • Provide chairside four-handed and six-handed general dentistry assisting for student dentists.
  • Maintain optimal infection control standards throughout all patient care activities.

Clinic Inventory:
  • Manage and maintain inventory of clinical supplies for the assigned Clinical Care Group (22-chair clinic).
  • Ensure adequate stock of daily clinic supplies at all times.

Additional Duties:
  • Actively participate in daily huddles and meetings.
  • Proctor Clinical Examinations (Mock Board Examinations) twice per year.
  • Participate in the UFCD Quality Assurance process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Fundamentals of Dental Assisting certification, Radiology certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred:
  • Multi-practitioner dental practice experience.
  • General dentistry chairside assisting skills.
  • Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code.
  • Experience handling general office equipment (fax machine, computer, copier, and calculator).
  • Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Access, and Excel).
  • Previous AxiUm (electronic health record) experience.
  • Customer service skills.
