Job description

The Operations Planning Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the sales and operations planning process to align demand, supply, and financial goals.
The role of the Operations Planning Manager ensures cross-functional collaboration across departments such as sales, marketing, manufacturing, finance, and logistics to optimize inventory, production, and distribution strategies.
Planning & Forecasting
  • Lead the division's Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process to align demand, supply, and capacity across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Create annual capacity and operating plans while monitoring overall customer demand during both annual budgeting and monthly forecasting cycles.
  • Develop and manage equipment loading plans to optimize production efficiency.
  • Manage production planning and scheduling across facilities to ensure customer demands are met.

Customer Service & Order Management
  • Oversee order entry and customer service operations to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.
  • Manage customer service efforts to maintain responsiveness and exceed customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams to align production scheduling with customer requirements.

ERP & Systems Integration
  • Partner with IT to enhance the functionality of our JDE-based ERP system.
  • Use system tools and analytics to reduce planning errors, improve operational visibility, and optimize decision-making.
  • Leverage technology solutions to streamline planning processes across multiple sites.

Working Capital & Inventory
  • Manage inventories to minimize working capital while maintaining continuity of operations.
  • Improve inventory turns and actively reduce excess or obsolete stock.
  • Oversee warehouse operations to maintain safe, organized conditions and ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Balance service levels with cost optimization across all inventory categories.

Continuous Improvement
  • Apply CI tools (Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA) to improve delivery performance, planning accuracy, and OEE.
  • Lead initiatives that standardize and enhance supply chain processes across the division.
  • Drive operational excellence through systematic problem-solving and process optimization.

Supplier Relationship Management
  • Manage purchasing function and build strategic supplier relationships to ensure quality, service, and reliability.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing to control costs, evaluate supplier performance, and develop comprehensive supply strategies.
  • Explore new sourcing options, including partnerships with 3PLs and other logistics providers.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead and develop the Operations Planning team, fostering an environment of high safety standards, teamwork, unity, and associate engagement.
  • As a member of the Operations Leadership Team and Strategic Council, actively participate in strategic planning to achieve business objectives.
  • Delegate tasks with clarity and trust, empowering team members to excel in their roles.
  • Foster a culture of two-way feedback and open communication throughout the organization.
  • Act as a coach to support individual growth and team development across cross-functional teams.
  • Identify skill gaps and create tailored development plans for team members.
  • Collaborate with division leadership to shape long-term strategies and drive organizational success.

Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Ability to lead operations planning teams in a multi-site manufacturing environment
  • Ability to improve and execute Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) with measurable results.
  • Skilled in using ERP systems (JDE preferred) to support planning and execution across multiple facilities.
  • Ability to understand inventory management, working capital optimization, and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to apply continuous improvement methods to drive operational gains and standardization.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator across operations, IT, sourcing, and customer-facing teams.
  • Ability to manage supplier relationships and working with sourcing teams to improve cost and service.
  • Ability to lead with strategic vision while coaching team members and fostering a culture of growth.
  • Ability to participate in senior leadership strategic planning and decision-making processes.
