Job description

Intern - Social Media Marketing/Parks and Recreation
Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week
Creative. Trend-spotting. Ready to turn parks, programs, and playground moments into scroll-stopping content.
What You'll Do Working under the direction of the Manager of Communications, you'll support Parks and Recreation's marketing efforts with a strong focus on social media strategy, content creation, and community engagement. You'll help bring programs, events, and initiatives to life online-ensuring our messaging connects with youth, parents, and the broader Fort Wayne community in meaningful and engaging ways.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and adapt content ideas into organized content calendars across Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Create engaging graphics, short- and long-form video, captions, hashtags, and links aligned with brand standards and program goals
  • Monitor comments and messages to support positive, timely, and accurate community engagement
  • Assist with tracking analytics, evaluating engagement trends, and recommending improvements to increase reach and impact
  • Support social media campaigns tied to department events, programs, and seasonal initiatives

What You Bring | Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with college coursework or training in Marketing, Communications, Media Relations, Journalism, English, Graphic design or related field
  • Experience using major social media platforms for content creation and engagement
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create age-appropriate, family-friendly content
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism in public-facing communications

Preferred Certifications
  • Valid Indiana Driver's License (if operating a City vehicle)

Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
