Job description

Summary: The Field Applications Engineer partners with customers, sales teams, engineering, and manufacturing to develop technical solutions for fluid power and mobile equipment applications. This role serves as a technical resource supporting customer application development, troubleshooting, product integration, and wire harness/system design.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical capability with customer-facing communication skills and enjoys solving complex application challenges in a fast-paced industrial environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers, OEMs, distribution partners, and the sales team regarding product applications, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Support customer application development by recommending and implementing Cattron solutions for new and existing applications.
  • Assist customers with technical issues, product troubleshooting, testing, and field support activities.
  • Design wiring diagrams and wire harnesses for customer-specific applications.
  • Develop application drawings, layouts, and technical documentation to support customer projects and manufacturing requirements.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and onsite support activities to ensure the successful implementation of solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, engineering, operations, and manufacturing to meet customer expectations, project timelines, and quality standards.
  • Build and test prototype assemblies, wire harnesses, and control panels in support of customer applications and new product development.
  • Support product validation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage multiple customer projects simultaneously while maintaining responsiveness and strong communication.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to customer applications, drawings, specifications, and project changes.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, products, and competitive solutions within the fluid power and industrial controls markets.
  • Travel to customer locations, trade shows, and company facilities as needed.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and compliance requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with CAD and electrical design software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electrical, Altium, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and wire harness design.
  • Experience with industrial equipment, mobile equipment, fluid power systems, or electro-mechanical applications preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and product development environments preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in applications engineering, field engineering, technical support, design engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and practical industry experience may be considered.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting OEM customers.
  • Knowledge of mobile equipment or off-highway vehicle applications.
  • Experience with CANbus/J1939 communication systems is a plus.
  • Experience in engine-driven equipment, industrial controls, or automation industries preferred.
