Job description

Special-Lite is seeking a Controller to join our Finance team in Decatur, MI. This individual is responsible for leading the day-to-day management of the accounting and finance functions including the preparation of all financial reports, federal and state compliance and tax reporting, operating budgets and internal accounting controls. This individual works with the CFO to develop and carry out long-term financial goals and serves as a collaborative Finance business partner to the management team.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations related to the preparation of federal, state, local reports and tax returns.
  • Prepares supporting documents for the annual financial reports and annual tax return with outside CPA firm.
  • Prepares documents supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.
  • Reviews monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results ensuring accurate accounting records are maintained.
  • Supervises the maintenance of fixed asset records.
  • Oversees the physical inventory process for various locations.
  • Manages and develops direct reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Assists in maintaining records for retirement accounts (i.e., 401-K Plan).

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 5 years of experience as a Financial Manager with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to communicate recommendations in a concise and timely manner to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong GAAP and financial reporting skills.
  • CPA or similar designation is a plus.
  • Previous experience with cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience with sales tax reporting.
  • Knowledge of specialized accounting software such as Sage Fixed Assets software and Microsoft Dynamics General Ledger software.

  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Required to occasionally stand and walk.
