MARKET PRESIDENT
Position Summary
The Market President serves as the senior executive and strategic leader for Hawthorn Bank within the assigned market. In this capacity, you will drive the overall growth, profitability, and market share of the region by leading a high-performing team.
This role places a high premium on team leadership, proactive business development, credit acumen, and disciplined sales management. The ideal leader will act as the face of Hawthorn Bank in the community, championing our relationship-driven banking model while ensuring strict adherence to credit quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Executive Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and Mentor: Direct, coach, and develop a commercial banking team.
  • Performance Management: Establish clear, measurable performance metrics (KPIs) relating to loan growth, deposit generation, and fee income. Conduct regular performance evaluations and pipeline reviews.
  • Talent Acquisition & Retention: Identify top-tier banking professionals and drive retention strategies to build a cohesive, motivated, and highly skilled team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with centralized operations, compliance, and wealth management teams to ensure seamless delivery of services to our clients.

2. Sales Management & Business Development
  • Drive Growth Strategy: Develop and execute the annual market business plan, targeting commercial enterprises, small-to-medium businesses, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Proactive Prospecting: Lead from the front by actively participating in the acquisition of complex and high-value commercial relationships.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain oversight of the team's sales pipeline via CRM systems, ensuring accountability and consistent conversion rates.
  • Product Utilization: Drive cross-selling initiatives to increase the penetration of Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and consumer banking services across the existing portfolio.

3. Credit Acumen & Portfolio Risk Management
  • Credit Analysis & Underwriting Oversight: Demonstrate deep expertise in credit underwriting, financial statement analysis, and collateral evaluation. Guide the team through complex deal structures.
  • Loan Committee Presentation: Prepare and present large or complex credit requests to the executive loan committee, demonstrating thorough risk-reward analysis.
  • Asset Quality: Maintain exceptional asset quality by proactively monitoring the portfolio, identifying early warning signs, and collaborating with Credit Administration to resolve potential delinquencies.
  • Risk Management: Ensure the market's portfolio complies with Hawthorn Bank's risk tolerance, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.

4. Community & Public Relations
  • Community Leadership: Represent Hawthorn Bank in civic, charitable, and professional organizations to enhance the bank's visibility and generate local goodwill.
  • Business Advocacy: Serve as a trusted financial advisor to local business leaders and local government entities, strengthening our position as a pillar of the community.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree or banking school certification (e.g., Graduate School of Banking) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or market leadership role.
  • Credit Knowledge: Formal credit training and a strong, proven track record of managing and structuring complex commercial credit transactions.
  • Sales Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and inspire a high-performing sales culture within a financial institution.
