Library Volunteer information

What is a library volunteer?

Library volunteers are individuals who donate their time and skills to support the daily operations and special programs of libraries. They assist with tasks such as shelving books, organizing materials, helping patrons find resources, preparing for events, and sometimes supporting literacy or outreach initiatives. Volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing library services and providing a welcoming environment for the community. Their efforts help libraries extend their programs and maintain high-quality services despite budget constraints.

What are some common responsibilities and challenges faced by library volunteers?

Library volunteers often assist with shelving books, organizing materials, helping patrons locate resources, and supporting library events. A common challenge is learning the library's classification system, which requires attention to detail and accuracy. Volunteers may also need to adapt to varying tasks and busy periods, especially during special events or peak hours. Working closely with librarians and other volunteers provides valuable experience in teamwork and customer service, making this role a great stepping stone for those interested in library science or community service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a library volunteer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Library Volunteer, you need organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic literacy, typically supported by a willingness to learn library procedures. Familiarity with library catalog systems, shelving protocols, and basic computer use is often required. Strong communication, reliability, and a helpful attitude make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient library operations, positive patron experiences, and valuable support for library staff.

Job description

About Helpside
Helpside is the HR department for small businesses that don't have one - payroll, benefits, HR, safety, and workers' comp, handled by people who do nothing else.
We serve small and mid-sized businesses across the U.S. Today we run more than $1B in annual payroll for more than 1,000 companies and tens of thousands of their employees.
Role Overview
We're looking for a senior full stack software engineer who loves to build and ship. You'll design, build, and own features end to end across our HR, payroll, and benefits platform - from technical design through deployment and support - writing clean, well-tested code that holds up in production.
You'll work closely with product, design, and other engineers to turn complex requirements into simple, reliable software. We use AI tools heavily to move faster, and we expect you to as well - but we hire for engineering judgment first.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Ship
  • Design, build, test, and maintain features across the stack, owning them from technical design through production
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to a healthy, scalable codebase
  • Break large problems into shippable increments and deliver them on a predictable cadence

Quality & Reliability
  • Own the reliability of the systems you build - monitoring, debugging, and resolving production issues
  • Care about security, performance, and data integrity in a domain where accuracy is non-negotiable
  • Help improve engineering practices: testing, code review, CI/CD, and tooling

Collaboration
  • Partner with product and design to scope work, clarify requirements, and propose practical solutions
  • Give and receive thoughtful code reviews and technical feedback
  • Communicate clearly about trade-offs, progress, and risks with both technical and non-technical partners

How We Build
  • Use AI tools as part of how you build - to accelerate design, coding, testing, and debugging
  • Mentor engineers and help raise the bar for the team

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production software, preferably in B2B/SaaS
  • High agency. You don't wait to be told. You see a gap and fill it.
  • Strong fluency in at least one modern programming language and the ability to work effectively across the stack
  • Experience designing, building, and operating web applications and APIs in production
  • Expert in C# with an understanding of OOP and application architecture.
  • Proficient in SQL, Transact-SQL (T-SQL), with an understanding of relational database design.
  • Experience creating and consuming services and data.
  • Disciplined coding, with a commitment to maintain a team-defined framework/architecture.
  • Expert at researching bugs and providing effective solutions.
  • Solid grasp of fundamentals: data modeling, testing, version control, and CI/CD
  • You use AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.) as part of how you build - and you have the judgment to know when to trust them and when not to

Nice to have
  • Experience in HR tech, payroll, benefits, fintech, or other complex, data-heavy domains
  • Front-End Web Development skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript ("raw" + common libraries), Responsive Web Design (RWD).
  • Experience with Vue.js, or other common JS libraries and frameworks (Angular, React, etc.).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive Salary
  • Health insurance 100% paid by employer (for both employee and family!)
  • Additional voluntary supplemental benefits including dental, vision, life insurance, disability, accident, critical illness, etc.
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid holidays and paid time off

Job Type: Full-Time. Job Location: Lindon, Utah (In-Person/Hybrid)
