Job description

Description GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Volunteers are an exciting and important component to the Iredell County Public Library. Thank you for your interest in joining the library team. To cultivate a welcome and inclusive experience for everyone who uses the library, all staff, volunteers, and patrons are expected to abide by all library rules and procedures.

This is a volunteer position and does not offer any compensation. There are several county requirements to volunteer at the library. Any prospective volunteers must: Complete an application and interview process.

Pass a background check and drug test (costs for all tests are fully covered by the library). Must be at least 14 years of age. Any applicants aged 14 or 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Due to the associated costs of the background checks and drug tests, volunteers pledge at least one year of service to the library, with a commitment of a between 2-8 hours each week. Each volunteer shift can be no longer than 4 hours at a time. Each library branch has a limited number of volunteer opportunities available at any given time.

If the requested library branch does not need additional assistance at the time of application, the applicant's name will be added to a wait list. Any applicants to the Statesville branch are expected to help in any of the three main departments, as any requests for specific department volunteer assignments are currently unavailable. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteer tasks and responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Assist library staff in daily tasks and projects.

Follow oral and written instructions. Communicate cooperatively with library staff. Shelf read and straighten.

Prep and organize crafts. Locate books and pull items from the collection. Sanitize tables and dust shelves.

Assist with library programs. Help set up and take down decorations. If interested in volunteering with the library, please fill out the attached application and the library volunteer coordinator will be in touch to arrange an interview as soon as possible.
