Job description

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The part-time Library Services Assistant provides a range of high-level administrative support tasks to facilitate daily operations, including but not limited to accounting, analyzing and interpreting data, and oversight of library technical support, circulation, and interlibrary loan services.

This is a part-time position for 29 hours per week. Proposed schedule: Mondays 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.; Tuesday to Friday 7:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The part-time Library Services Assistant reports directly to and is responsible to the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services.

B. The part-time Library Services Assistant works most closely with the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services, as well as staff librarians.

C. This is a non-supervisory position. However, the part-time Library Services Assistant assists in providing direction to library student workers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

A. Oversees daily operations within the physical library.

1. Explains and demonstrates how to access print and online materials.


2. Maintains library software and equipment.


3. Assists students in logging into network accounts, as well as using email, D2L, Microsoft Office, and other campus software applications.


4. Oversees circulation duties including the processing of books and course reserves.


5. Places and processes interlibrary loan requests.


6. Compiles and analyzes data; maintains a variety of usage logs and statistics.


7. Oversees inventory of all library print materials.


8. Processes delinquent accounts and maintains overdue notices.

B. Assists Coordinator with Budgets and Purchasing

1. Maintains records and balances of all expenses for library functions.


2. Contacts vendors, obtains price quotes, and generates purchase orders/check requests for library supplies and resources.

C. Assists librarians with reference, technical services, and administration.

1. Answers basic reference questions in person or via chat service; refers complex requests to librarians.


2. Mends books/materials and alerts Coordinator to condition and/or preservation concerns.


3. Assists with creation and maintenance of library catalog records.


4. Performs other library support services as needed.
