Position Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Pay Frequency: Monthly

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus – Arkansas City, KS

Department: Library Services

Reports To: Director of Library Services

Job Summary: 

The Library Services Assistant position assists the Director of Library Services with all operations of the Library.  

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the library and student assistants in the absence of the Director of Library Services.
  • Provide assistance to individuals and groups in locating and utilizing library materials, online resources and library equipment.
  • Assist in the circulation of library materials.
  • Provide routine receptionist, correspondence, clerical and recordkeeping services for the Director of Library Services.
  • Catalog and process materials for the library.
  • Assist in the inventory of all library materials and equipment.
  • Manage overdue process (reports and notifications).
  • Assist with make-up testing, monitoring testing, managing test materials, and all other testing issues.
  • Assist students with general online course assistance and general technical assistance.
  • Assist with managing inter-library loan transactions and records.
  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures
  • Assist the Director of Library Services by performing other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills. 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Good communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
  • Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations.
  • Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.  

Required Experience:

 
  • Working in a library environment, preferred. 
  • Working within a Community College environment, preferred.
  • Management experience, preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.  

Work Environment:

Work performed in an office environment.
