CIRCULATION DESK
Student workers play a vital role in helping Bethany College run smoothly. By supporting various departments and assisting with daily tasks, you'll gain valuable work experience and contribute to our campus community. These positions typically last the entire academic year, unless your work-study funds are exhausted earlier. You'll receive regular feedback and support from your supervisor to help you succeed.

Location: Wallerstedt Library
Compensation:
  • $12/Hour for Federal Work Study eligible students
  • $10/Hour for Internal Work Study (only some departments on campus have access to these funds)
Job Summary:
Bethany College students hold the position as a part-time job. The circulation desk is the focus of communication between the patron and the library since the circulation student assistants represent the first point of contact for most patrons. It is essential that you smile and speak to patrons who pass the circulation desk area. Hospitality is one of Bethany's core values, and we are a service that promotes hospitality. The first impression of the library and of the campus is often that which the student assistants project. Student assistants staff the front desk, assisting patrons, referring patrons to a librarian for more detailed reference assistance, and performing the following duties and tasks assigned by the librarians.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Check in and out materials, course reserves, and interlibrary loans
  • Provide reference assistance in the stacks, the Internet, and the databases.
  • Deliver campus mail.
  • Process new acquisitions.
  • Sort archives.
  • Responsible for shifting books as needed, cleaning shelves, and shelf-reading the collection to keep it in order throughout the academic year.

  • Inventory of the collection within the online catalog
  • Open and close the library
