Introduction
Are you detail-oriented, community-minded, and excited to make a daily impact? Chinn Park Library in Woodbridge, VA, is seeking an energetic, organized Library Technician to join our dynamic Circulation Team. If you thrive in a supportive, forward-thinking environment and love building meaningful connections within a diverse community, we'd love to have you on board!
Currently, Chinn Park is undergoing a landmark, large-scale renovation, and you will be a vital part of the leadership team that reintroduces the community to everything a modern Chinn Park has to offer.
While this position is based at the Chinn Park Library, the selected candidate may be required to work at alternative county library locations during the upcoming building renovation.
About This Role:
  • Customer & Patron Support: Provide high-quality, welcoming customer service to patrons and internal staff. Assist patrons with holds, item locations, branch technology, and standard office equipment.
  • Financial Oversight: Handle daily cash transactions and prepare accurate financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Operations & Policy: Interpret and apply library policies and procedures. Process missing or damaged materials and resolve issues with patrons professionally.
  • Recordkeeping & Data: Maintain, update, and audit reports, records, and databases to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Collection Maintenance: Partner with fellow Library Technicians to carry out collection maintenance, organization, and inventory needs for the branch.
  • Team Collaboration & Development: Share skills, knowledge, and best practices with colleagues; actively participate in departmental and system-wide meetings and training.
  • Shift Leadership: Serve as shift lead as needed, ensuring a seamless workflow and staff productivity in the supervisor's absence.
  • Community & Programming: Support branch outreach by creating engaging displays, assisting with library programs, and participating in community events.

Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Preferences:
  • 1 year of customer service experience
  • Experience as a team lead or person in charge
  • Experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS)
  • Experience with specialized library software or web applications (e.g., ILLiad, Beanstack, SAM).
  • Experience with meeting room reservation software and managing facility bookings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience in processing financial transactions (cash, checks, cards) and performing daily balance reconciliations.
  • Experience in providing reference services, reader's advisory, and information assistance to patrons.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, or supporting library programming and community outreach events.
  • Experience in interpreting and effectively communicating policies and procedures to patrons.

Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time, non-exempt 37.5-hour-a-week position which includes days, evenings, and weekend hours. Scheduling flexibility is essential. Chinn Park Library hours of operation are: Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm, Thursday through Saturday, 9:00 am - 5 pm, and Sunday, 12:00 pm-5:00 pm.
Hiring Salary Range: $21.14 - $26.65 / Hour

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours a week, non-exempt position. The schedule includes days, at least one evening a week, and rotating weekends.
