Library Assistant

The Library Assistant performs varied tasks to support library materials processing and circulation, assist students and staff and support the school librarian.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

  • Provides clerical support to the school librarian
  • Supports and assists the school librarian in encouraging library use
  • Assists in processing library materials and circulating resources
  • Assists students and staff in locating materials and utilizing resources and technologies
Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

High school diploma

Experience

Experience providing direct customer service

Licenses and Certifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to utilize library management systems
  • Ability to apply library procedures and policies
  • Ability to compose routine memoranda and letters with general instruction
  • Ability to maintain clerical and financial records and prepare routine reports
  • Ability to operate a word processor and standard office equipment
  • Knowledge of on-line search techniques
  • Proficiency in word processing and data entry
