POSITION OVERVIEW
"We primarily are looking for a Yoga Instructor and Aquatics Instructors for the daytime availability"
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading engaging, effective, and safe group exercise classes for members of varying fitness levels. This role requires a passion for health and wellness, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire participants. Instructors are expected to foster a positive and inclusive class environment, adhere to facility policies, and continuously develop their professional skills.
A Personal Trainer is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring individualized exercise programs for clients to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. This role requires a deep understanding of exercise science, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to motivate, educate, and inspire clients. Personal Trainers are expected to maintain professional conduct, adhere to facility policies, and continuously advance their expertise. Starting salary is dependent on years of experience and will be determined based on Town salary grade requirements for the position(s).
Group Fitness Instructor duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan and lead fitness classes: Design and implement safe, effective, and engaging class plans; provide clear verbal and visual cues by demonstrating moves and techniques; adapt exercises and provide modifications to accommodate a wide range of abilities; continuously monitor participants to ensure correct form and prevent injury.
  • Customer service: Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that motivates participants, encourage personal growth, and promote learning throughout their fitness journey.
  • Maintain facilities and records: Ensure a clean and safe workout environment, including proper equipment storage; record accurate class attendance; respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Program support and promotion: Work with the Fitness Coordinator to promote fitness programs and events; collaborate in the planning, production, and distribution of promotional materials; assist with Parks and Recreation supported events as assigned.
  • Professional development: Stay current on fitness trends and research; attend in-service trainings and complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Additional Duties: Assists as needed to accomplish a variety of WARF programs and program requirements.
  • Personal Trainer duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain facilities and records: Monitor client progress, adjust programs as needed, and accurately log all training sessions in the recreation management software program, maintain a clean and safe workout environment, ensure proper equipment use and storage, and respond promptly to emergencies.
  • Program support and promotion: Collaborate with the Fitness Coordinator to promote and advertise all fitness events, activities and programs; assist with department events as assigned
  • Professional development: Stay current on fitness trends and research; attend in-service trainings and complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES
  • Valid Virginia (VA) Driver's License - Must have upon hire. If relocating to VA, a valid VA drivers' license is required to be obtained withing 1 year from date of hire.
  • CPR/FA certification - Must obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
  • Nationally Recognized Fitness Certification - Must have upon hire.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • This is a part-time position generally scheduled for up to 29 hours per week.
  • Flexible hours may include a combination of weekdays, evenings and weekends depending on availability, programming and facility needs
  • Holiday work or adjusted hours for special events may be requested

  • The following equipment/tools are commonly associated with the efficiency of the employees' job performance.
  • Shared computer including word processing software, printer, telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and other associated office equipment.
  • Operation of Audio Equipment including sound system/speaker and headset microphone
  • Music Connectivity including Bluetooth, auxiliary cords (3.5mm jack), and USB, for playing music from personal devices
  • Class specific equipment such as dumbbells, body bars, resistance bands and tubing, stability balls, medicine balls, mats, straps, steps, foam rollers, etc.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of the job.
  • Work requires the ability to talk, hear, listen, and comprehend.

  • Work requires the ability to complete repetitive wrist, hand, and/or fine motor movement.
  • Work requires the ability to grasp, pull, push, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Work requires visual acuity of 20 feet or more, visual acuity of 20 inches or less, three dimensional vision, precise hand/eye coordination, the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Manual/General labor of medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
