Description
We are seeking a Legal Analytics and eDiscovery Specialist to join our Legal team. This role is designed for a data-savvy legal technologist with significant experience in eDiscovery. Top candidates will have a passion for data, an interest in working with professionals at all levels to solve legal and regulatory related inquiries and requests. This role will drive the identification, preservation, collection, analysis, processing, production and integration of sensitive, useful and necessary data in response to legal requests and business initiatives.
You will also help shift department-wide data management responsibilities from attorneys to a centralized, scalable, and tech-forward function within Legal Operations. You will do this by helping to build cohesive systems, processes and infrastructure which help Legal improve the efficiency and quality of its services. You will also work closely with enterprise Information Governance and Information Security teams to develop best practices for fulfilling data-centric workflows that meet unique requirements of eDiscovery and other legal standards and requirements.
This is a unique opportunity to have a voice in how data is managed and used in a global legal and regulatory department across multiple areas of law, concentrating on litigation, including but not limited to, investigations, privacy, data protection, information governance, intellectual property, information security and legal operations.
Role expectations
  • Meaningfully contribute to the design, implementation, and execution of eDiscovery policies, strategies, and workflows.
  • Lead the identification, preservation, collection, analysis, and processing of data in response to eDiscovery as well as other legal and regulatory matters and conduct custodial interviews.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Legal, IT, InfoSec, and external vendors for eDiscovery workflows, and ensure alignment with eDiscovery requirements, workflows and strategic needs.
  • Manage and optimize workflows using designated eDiscovery platforms, including data reduction and culling. Experience in Everlaw and Relativity is preferred.
  • Utilize Microsoft Purview eDiscovery to manage the full eDiscovery lifecycle, including case creation, custodian identification, legal holds, data collection, review set management, and export.
  • Administer and maintain review sets, support early case assessment (ECA), and prepare data for downstream processing or production in third party review platforms.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals to design, identify and manage ESI protocols, processes and workflows where the use of enterprise and/or department data is required.
  • Help drive the oversight and ongoing enhancement of our record retention policy and retention schedule, including implementing system and user updates, addressing inquiries, and ensuring employees have timely access to accurate information needed for compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with legal professionals to support the legal hold process including preservation and collection of documents and ESI.
  • Build a strong partnership with corporate IT teams and be viewed as a trusted partner and valuable resource on the Legal team by bringing both domain expertise and technical understanding.
  • Prepare budget forecasts related to eDiscovery.
  • Lead the submission, tracking, and reconciliation of invoices through Align's billing platform Brightflag.
  • Ensure all vendor invoices adhere strictly to company outside counsel guidelines, fee agreements, and rates.
  • Contribute to review of outside vendor bills and time entries.
  • Generate and analyze monthly billing reports to identify discrepancies, track accruals, and monitor budget usage.
  • Investigate and resolve billing disputes, invoice rejections, and past-due accounts efficiently.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external law firms regarding billing inquiries and technical issues.
  • Develop and implement improvements to the department's billing workflows.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving data privacy, information governance, and IP protection.
  • Contribute to the development of legal data intelligence capabilities, including the use of AI agents and analytics tools in our document collection and management.
  • Monitor and report on data trends, risks, and opportunities across the legal data lifecycle.
  • Stay current on legal tech innovations, regulatory changes, Microsoft 365 and Purview feature updates/limitations, and best practices in data governance and eDiscovery.

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or paralegal studies certificate required from an American Bar Associations (ABA) accredited program or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in a large, global legal department or law firm preferred
  • Strong litigation background with knowledge of discovery across the EDRM Model.
  • Hands-on experience with eDiscovery, litigation support, or legal technology, Everlaw or similar eDiscovery platforms preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, and exposure to Purview, retention policies, and compliance tools preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Interest in legal data intelligence, AI/ML tools, or agentic technologies is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CEDS, CIPP, CIPT, RCA, IGP) are a strong advantage.

Pay Transparency
If provided, base salary or wage rate ranges are the range in which Align reasonably expects to set a candidate's pay for the posted position. Actual placement depends on the individual skills and experience level of a candidate plus the total compensation and equity across team members. For other locations outside of the primary location, the base salary range will be adjusted geographically.
For Field Sales roles, the salary listed is the base pay only and does not include the applicable incentive compensation plan. A cost of living adjustment may be added to base pay for higher cost areas in the U.S.
Our internship hourly rates are a standard pay determined based on the position and your location, year in school, degree, and experience.

Employee benefits. Align offers its employees:
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance in accordance with those plans.

  • 401k plan (with a discretionary Company match of 50% up to 6% of eligible earnings up to a maximum match of 3%.). Employer match vests after two years - 25% year one and 100% at year two. Align offers traditional, Roth, and after-tax options.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (Employees must work 20 hours or more and be employed on purchase date to be eligible).
  • Paid vacation of up to 17 days during the first full year of employment (currently accrued at the rate of 5.24 hours each pay-period), which carries over to a maximum cap of 30 days. Annual paid vacation time accrual increases based on tenure. Both exempt and non-exempt employees who work 32 hours or more per week receive prorated vacation accrual based on their regularly scheduled work hours and tenure.
  • Sick time is accrued throughout the year at the rate of one hour for every thirty worked. Employees can carry over unused sick leave each year, up to a maximum balance of 80 hours.
  • 11 Company-designated paid holidays throughout the year.
  • If employed for at least 12 consecutive months, Align will grant up to 6 weeks of paid Parental Leave. If employed for less than 12 consecutive months, Align will grant up to 4 weeks of paid Parental Leave. All parental leave must be completed within one year of the birth or placement of the child. Parental leave is in addition to any state and/or local parental leave benefits. Three days of paid bereavement leave. In some cases, due to travel the amount of paid leave may be extended to 5 paid days off. To the extent applicable state or local law offers more generous benefits, Align complies with any such law.
  • Non-exempt employees will receive full pay for up to 10 days of jury duty. Exempt employees will receive their full salary during any week they serve and perform any work. Other insurance such as legal, critical illness, voluntary accident, long-term care, auto, home and pet insurance are available for purchase.
