Description
We are seeking a Legal Analytics and eDiscovery Specialist to join our Legal team. This role is designed for a data-savvy legal technologist with significant experience in eDiscovery. You will also work closely with enterprise Information Governance and Information Security teams to develop best practices for fulfilling data-centric workflows that meet unique requirements of eDiscovery and other legal standards and requirements.
This is a unique opportunity to have a voice in how data is managed and used in a global legal and regulatory department across multiple areas of law, concentrating on litigation, including but not limited to, investigations, privacy, data protection, information governance, intellectual property, information security and legal operations.
Role expectations
- Meaningfully contribute to the design, implementation, and execution of eDiscovery policies, strategies, and workflows.
- Lead the identification, preservation, collection, analysis, and processing of data in response to eDiscovery as well as other legal and regulatory matters and conduct custodial interviews.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Legal, IT, InfoSec, and external vendors for eDiscovery workflows, and ensure alignment with eDiscovery requirements, workflows and strategic needs.
- Manage and optimize workflows using designated eDiscovery platforms, including data reduction and culling. Experience in Everlaw and Relativity is preferred.
- Utilize Microsoft Purview eDiscovery to manage the full eDiscovery lifecycle, including case creation, custodian identification, legal holds, data collection, review set management, and export.
- Administer and maintain review sets, support early case assessment (ECA), and prepare data for downstream processing or production in third party review platforms.
- Collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals to design, identify and manage ESI protocols, processes and workflows where the use of enterprise and/or department data is required.
- Help drive the oversight and ongoing enhancement of our record retention policy and retention schedule, including implementing system and user updates, addressing inquiries, and ensuring employees have timely access to accurate information needed for compliance and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with legal professionals to support the legal hold process including preservation and collection of documents and ESI.
- Build a strong partnership with corporate IT teams and be viewed as a trusted partner and valuable resource on the Legal team by bringing both domain expertise and technical understanding.
- Prepare budget forecasts related to eDiscovery.
- Lead the submission, tracking, and reconciliation of invoices through Align's billing platform Brightflag.
- Ensure all vendor invoices adhere strictly to company outside counsel guidelines, fee agreements, and rates.
- Contribute to review of outside vendor bills and time entries.
- Generate and analyze monthly billing reports to identify discrepancies, track accruals, and monitor budget usage.
- Investigate and resolve billing disputes, invoice rejections, and past-due accounts efficiently.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external law firms regarding billing inquiries and technical issues.
- Develop and implement improvements to the department's billing workflows.
- Support cross-functional initiatives involving data privacy, information governance, and IP protection.
- Contribute to the development of legal data intelligence capabilities, including the use of AI agents and analytics tools in our document collection and management.
- Monitor and report on data trends, risks, and opportunities across the legal data lifecycle.
- Stay current on legal tech innovations, regulatory changes, Microsoft 365 and Purview feature updates/limitations, and best practices in data governance and eDiscovery.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's Degree and/or paralegal studies certificate required from an American Bar Associations (ABA) accredited program or equivalent work experience.
- 4+ years of experience in a large, global legal department or law firm preferred
- Strong litigation background with knowledge of discovery across the EDRM Model.
- Hands-on experience with eDiscovery, litigation support, or legal technology, Everlaw or similar eDiscovery platforms preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, and exposure to Purview, retention policies, and compliance tools preferred.
- Demonstrated analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Interest in legal data intelligence, AI/ML tools, or agentic technologies is a plus.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CEDS, CIPP, CIPT, RCA, IGP) are a strong advantage.
Complementary skills:
- Strong attention to detail
- Fast learner
- Curious and adaptable, with a growth mindset and a passion for innovation.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building new processes from the ground up.
- Able to work independently while collaborating across diverse teams and time zones.
- Possess a sense of humor, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.
