Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a dedicated Legal Services Project Manager (Pro Bono & Training) to join Legal Services State Support (State Support), a statewide legal services support program housed at MMLA that serves Minnesota's civil legal aid community. ย State Support plays a unique, non-direct-service role in Minnesotaโ€™s civil justice system by providing information, connections, and tools for legal aid organizations, pro bono partners, and the public.ย

State Supportโ€™sย workย focuses on the following areas:ย 

  • Educate the public about legal issues and improve client referrals to providers, primarily throughwww.LawHelpMN.orgย and theย Legal Kiosk Project.ย 

  • Strengthening the advocate community through continuing legal education trainings, statewide conferences, and system-wide supportย 

  • Expanding access to free legal services, primarily throughย www.MNLegalAdvice.org.ย

Position Summaryย 

The Legal Services Project Manager leads core projects that strengthen civil legal services across Minnesota. This positionย is responsible forย managing the Minnesota Legal Advice Online (MLAO) platform, overseeing theย ProJusticeMNย resource site and its planned successor platform, coordinating Continuing Legal Education trainings and mini conferences, and leading programming for the biennial Statewide Legal Services Conference.ย 

The Project Manager works closely with pro bono attorneys, legal aid staff, partner organizations, and outside vendors to ensure these projects run effectively, meet community needs, and advance State Support's mission of expanding access to justice throughout Minnesota.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

This positionย leadsย projects that support the civil legal services community. The positionย is responsible forย three primary projects:ย 

  • Minnesota Legal Advice Online (MLAO).ย MLAO is an online platform where income-eligible clients can post questions for pro bono lawyers toย answer aboutย civil legal matters. The project manager oversees the functioning of the site with support from an outside vendor; reviews and logs all questions posted to the site; trains, supports, and recruits pro bono lawyers;ย closes unanswered questions and provides referrals when appropriate; and compiles data for reporting on site usage.ย 

  • Pro Bono Projects.ย ProJusticeMNย is a site for pro bono lawyers and legal aid staff to access training, resources,ย a calendar,ย a directoryย of pro bono opportunities and listservs toย facilitateย their work. The project manager oversees this site, updating the information and collaborating with partners, including the MSBA (Minnesota State Bar Association), on how to best serve the pro bono community. In 2026 and 2027, this position will work closely on a project to replaceย ProJusticeMNย with a new platform funded by a BOCLA project grant.ย

  • Continuing Legal Education (CLE)ย trainingsย andย Statewide Legal Services Conference.ย State Support offers one-to-fourย trainingsย a month for the legal aid andย pro-bonoย communities.ย State Support also typically offers one-to-two mini conferences per year.ย This position is the lead training planner andย is responsible forย identifyingย training topics and presenters and coordinatingย trainings.ย ย

State Support holds a Statewide Legal Services Conference every other year. This position is the lead for planning State Conference programming, including plenary and breakout sessions.ย In late 2026, this position will begin planning for the Oct. 13-15,ย 2027ย Statewide Conference.ย 

In addition to these three primary projects, all members of State Supportโ€™s staffย assistย withย additionalย duties as needed. This is a unique job thatย providesย an exciting opportunity to make a statewide impact on improving access to justice for all Minnesotans.ย 

QUALIFICATIONSย 

Required qualificationsย 

  • At least 3 years of legal experience in legal services, public interest law, or a related systems-level roleย 

  • A demonstrated interest in and commitment to access to justice, includingย the belief that people should be able to understand and assert their legal rights,ย with experience makingย legal information accessible, clear, and usable, particularly for people navigating legal issues without representationย 

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects with strict deadlinesย 

  • Excellent organization and attention to detailย 

  • Self-starter whoย is able toย work independently without direct supervisionย 

  • Strong project management, communication, and relationship-building skillsย 

  • Proficiencyย using Microsoftย Officeย Suiteandย comfort with learning and integratingย new technologiesย into daily workย 

  • Juris Doctor degreeย ย 

Preferred qualificationsย 

  • Project planning and project management experienceย 

  • Experience working in the access-to-justice fieldย 

  • Experience working in a team-based settingย 

  • Experience coordinating across multiple agencies and organizationsย 

  • Experience working with diverse economic, social, or cultural communitiesย 

SALARY:$84,ย 363 toย 96,345ย per year, depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employeeย assistanceย programs, and generous paid time off. Weย operateย on a 4.5-day workweek, ending at noon on Fridays.ย
