Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bankruptcy Legal Assistant to join a respected national law firm in Los Angeles. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with a strong background in bankruptcy law who thrives in a dynamic, high-volume legal environment.

About the Role

As a Bankruptcy Legal Assistant, you’ll provide high-level administrative and legal support to bankruptcy attorneys handling Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases. You’ll be responsible for drafting and filing legal documents, maintaining case files, coordinating with courts and trustees, and ensuring all filings are executed accurately and on time. This role requires precision, confidentiality, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced legal setting.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, draft, and file bankruptcy-related documents with state and federal courts.

  • Gather case information from creditors, debtors, trustees, and court clerks.

  • Obtain credit reports and draft Proofs of Claim and related bankruptcy filings.

  • Manage electronic case filings using the U.S. Bankruptcy Court’s ECF system.

  • Maintain organized case files and monitor dockets and deadlines.

  • Transcribe dictations, meeting minutes, or conference notes as needed.

  • Proofread all materials for grammar, accuracy, and format compliance.

  • Compose routine correspondence and prepare reports and memoranda.

  • Schedule attorney calendars, coordinate meetings, hearings, and travel.

  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and vendors regarding case status and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the Finance Department regarding billing and time entry for assigned attorneys.


Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supporting bankruptcy attorneys in a law firm setting.

  • High School Diploma required; higher education or vocational training preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of bankruptcy law terminology, procedures, and filings.

  • Experience with U.S. Bankruptcy Court ECF and electronic filing processes.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and case management software (e.g., PACER, Westlaw, LexisNexis, Relativity, or Concordance).

  • Typing speed of 75+ WPM with excellent accuracy.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.


Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000 annually (commensurate with experience).
