Position Summary
The Director of the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) provides visionary leadership to advance educational excellence and foster a collaborative campus culture dedicated to innovative pedagogy. This position is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive professional development programs for both full-time and adjunct faculty, focusing on high-impact instructional strategies, the ethical integration of emerging technologies, and the implementation of research-based course quality standards. In addition to overseeing the center's daily operations, budget, and Institutional Effectiveness reporting, the Director serves as the primary administrator for the institution's Learning Management System (LMS) and acts as a key liaison between academic units and technical support teams. By balancing strategic leadership with discipline-specific teaching responsibilities, the Director ensures that the TLC remains a central hub for evidence-based teaching practices that directly support student success and institutional growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Faculty Development
- Comprehensive Program Design: Envision, develop, and deliver comprehensive faculty development programs across multiple modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) that support excellence in teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- New Faculty & Adjunct Onboarding: Plan, coordinate, and supervise orientation and training opportunities for full-time and adjunct faculty to ensure their successful transition into the institutional culture and pedagogical expectations.
- Mentorship & Learning Communities: Lead initiatives that build faculty community, such as peer mentoring programs, Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs), and faculty fellows programs to recognize teaching excellence.
- Individual Consultations: Provide one-on-one consultations for faculty regarding course design, assessment strategies, career planning, and individual teaching challenges.
- Course Development & Quality Assurance: Collaborate with faculty to design and develop online, hybrid, and blended courses that align with instructional best practices and accessibility standards.
- AI Integration & Emerging Pedagogies: Lead campus conversations and provide training on the ethical use and integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools and methodologies within the curriculum and pedagogy.
- Quality Standards Implementation: Implement course quality rubric assessment processes, such as Quality Matters, to ensure online and hybrid programs are well-designed and reflective of the college's mission.
- Multimedia Resource Creation: Oversee the design and production of digital learning objects, including instructional videos, podcasts, infographics, and interactive modules to support varied learning needs.
- LMS Platform Administration: Serve as the primary platform administrator for the institution's Learning Management System (LMS), managing courses, users, and integrated third-party educational tools.
- Technology Training: Develop and deliver robust training sessions on educational technologies, such as lecture capture platforms, proctoring software, and multimedia authoring tools.
- Technical Liaison: Act as a liaison between academic divisions, the library, and IT support teams to identify and address instructional technology needs and troubleshoot issues.
- Institutional Effectiveness & Reporting: Maintain responsibility for Institutional Effectiveness reporting, including the submission of goals, the evaluation of student learning outcomes, and the recommendation of strategic actions for the TLC.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure the teaching and learning environment complies with standards and regulations from accrediting bodies (e.g., SACS) and federal guidelines (e.g., ADA, Title IX, FERPA).
- Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the TLC operational budget, negotiate licensing and pricing for educational software, and manage the center's physical space and technical equipment.
- Campus Collaboration: Partner with deans, division chairs, and other campus units to align professional development initiatives with the College's Strategic Plan and regional workforce needs.
- Instructional Responsibilities: Teach courses (typically two per academic year, with at least one online) in their specific discipline or field of expertise.
- Outreach & Communication: Manage the center's web presence, newsletters, and social media to clearly communicate professional development opportunities and highlight teaching best practices to the college community.
- Committee Service: Serve as a liaison or ex-officio member on assigned college committees and represent the institution with national professional development organizations.
Qualifications
- Education: A Master's degree from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a closely related field required.
- Teaching Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of teaching experience in a post-secondary or higher education environment.
- Professional Development Experience: At least 2 to 5 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering faculty development programs or instructional materials.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard or Canvas, including platform administration and technical troubleshooting.
Desired Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:
- Quality Standards Certification: Status as a Certified Quality Matters (QM) Peer or Master Reviewer, or documented experience applying the QM rubric to course design.
- Multimedia Production: Proficiency with multimedia authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate 360, Camtasia) for the creation of instructional digital learning objects.
- Pedagogical Knowledge: A deep understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies, high-impact practices, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).
- Communication Skills: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical matters into easy-to-understand language.
- Scholarship & Research: A recorded history of publications or presentations in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) or educational technology.
- Grant Management: Experience in securing and managing internal or external grants related to educational improvement or faculty innovation.
- Leadership Experience: Prior experience in a supervisory role, including hiring, training, and evaluating professional staff or faculty fellows.

SALARY: Salary Schedule C3-2, ($78,000 - $101,504) Based on the 2026-2027 ACCS Salary Schedules.
