Job description

Abaco Systems is a global leader in modular, high performance, open architecture, standards-based rugged embedded computing for the most demanding applications in defense and industry. Our products and solutions are found in high-profile military/aerospace sea, land and air programs, plus commercial and industrial organizations in which rugged reliability is mission critical.

In this role, the Senior Program Manager will direct, coordinate, and exercise program authority for proposal efforts, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects across multiple sites. The Senior Program Manager will work with the organization, ensuring customer expectations are understood and plans are prioritized to deliver on Abaco commitments while improving the customer experience. The Senior Program Manager is responsible for the overall surveillance and success of assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Proactively ensures that strict scope management is carried out for every active New Product Integration program/project.
  • Assists in project portfolio management and prioritization with multiple site locations.
  • Establish milestones and be accountable for adherence to master plans, schedules, and budgeting to include forecasting and tracking.
  • Prepares accurate reporting for customers and internal leadership.
  • Monitors project for task requests that represent a change in program scope.
  • Controls program expenditures in adherence to budget approvals and CAPEX monitoring while maintaining schedule limitations.
  • Acts as a key process owner for major customer reviews, customer communications and change control in assigned programs.
  • Confers with functional management, staff, and customers to provide execution and program life by working with assigned IPT, customer support personnel, and the product support manager.
  • Drives the collection of data and prepares information to meet the customer requirements associated with related issues such as audits, delivery status, reviews, assessments, manufacturing rate readiness reviews and other supporting information.
  • Forward-thinking to identify risks, overcome potential program roadblocks and drive projects to completion.
  • Develops program assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement.
  • Promotes collaboration and provide guidance to project teams and other program staff members.
  • Maintains organizational standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering or Business.
  • Minimum 7 years related experience in Project/Program Management.
  • Technical design experience and/or board-level electronics manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • PMP Certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Effectively incorporates the principles of Program Management into daily activities.
  • Direct product development program management experience, preferably in a defense industry electronic design environment.
  • Experience with Work Breakdown Structures, Microsoft Project planning, resource management and project estimation. 
  • Comfortable with producing "what if" scenarios to provide data to help with planning and decision making.
  • Ability to teach program processes and workflows.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical and financial calculations relative to pricing, estimating, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail with ability to organize.
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally in a clear, polite, and courteous manner to executive level leadership, organizational departments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal communications (written and verbal) with a positive attitude and ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks in a timely manner and on schedule.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and adaptability to deal with changing conditions and requirements.
  • Customer-centric mindset.
