Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to support the design, development, and evaluation of enterprise learning programs. This role is ideal for someone with experience in adult learning and instructional design who is eager to apply the ADDIE framework in a real-world, business-driven environment.
The intern will partner with the Enterprise Learning team to build practical, behavior-focused learning experiences that drive measurable performance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze learning needs
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify performance gaps and define learning requirements
  • Conduct needs assessments to inform instructional approach

Design learning experiences
  • Create clear, behavior-based learning objectives aligned to business outcomes
  • Apply adult learning principles to ensure relevance and engagement

Develop learning content
  • Build instructional materials (e.g., storyboards, WBT modules, facilitator guides, job aids)
  • Design practice activities that help learners apply skills on the job

Support implementation
  • Assist with pilots, learner communications, and rollout activities
  • Collaborate with SMEs, facilitators, and development partners

Evaluate effectiveness
  • Help define success metrics and evaluation methods
  • Analyze learner feedback and performance data to improve learning outcomes

This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel's business needs
Minimum Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in: Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field with relevant coursework.
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in: Instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE), Adult learning theory / andragogy, Curriculum or training development
  • Must be local to Minnesota or Colorado
  • Must be local student in Minnesota or Colorado

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation)
  • Experience designing or delivering learning for adult audiences
  • Strong written communication and ability to translate complex concepts into clear, practical content
  • Experience developing eLearning (RISE)
  • Experience creating storyboards or instructional materials
  • Experience designing facilitator guides
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms or learning analytics
  • Ability to design learning that connects directly to on-the-job performance
