Junior Infrastructure Engineer, Hybrid in Aurora, IL

The ideal Junior Infrastructure Engineer is technically curious, highly organized, and eager to learn. This Junior Infrastructure Engineer will support day-to-day network and infrastructure operations, assist with deployment and troubleshooting of equipment, and work closely with senior engineers on projects that improve reliability, visibility, and performance across our production environment. This is an early-career role for someone who wants to build hands-on experience across both network engineering and data center operations in a high-performance electronic trading environment. This is a Hybrid position and requires regular onsite work at a colocation facility near Aurora, IL. Typically, 2 to 3 days per week, with occasional weekend work. When not onsite, the role is remote.

Junior Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installation, cabling, labeling, documentation, and troubleshooting of physical equipment in a colocation environment.
  • Support day-to-day operation of network and infrastructure environments.
  • Help monitor, investigate, and resolve network, hardware, and connectivity issues.
  • Work with senior engineers on troubleshooting packet loss, latency, routing, and equipment failures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Assist with hardware shipments, vendor coordination, and equipment lifecycle tasks.
  • Contribute to automation and process improvement where possible.
  • Support maintenance work outside normal business hours as needed, including occasional Saturdays and Sundays.

Junior Infrastructure Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related subject.
  • Candidate must be located within a reasonable commuting distance of Aurora, IL.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to thoroughly document implementations, modifications and removals.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and network fundamentals.
  • Exposure to troubleshooting tools such as tcpdump or Wireshark.
  • Able to work independently, follow through on operational tasks, and learn quickly from experienced teammates.
  • Exposure to concepts of automation and scripting languages (python).
  • Candidates with a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or who are actively working toward one, will stand out.
