Job description

Job Summary:
The State of Nebraska is seeking an experienced Senior IT Application Developer proficient in Java, SQL Server, and Oracle. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining applications to meet business requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with end users and other stakeholders to define system requirements
• Perform information analysis and organization
• Estimate cost of potential application development & modification projects
• Create implementation plans
• Prepare system documentation
• Provide ongoing support and maintenance for console and web applications
• Gather requirements for data definitions
• Develop and debug program code
• Perform alpha/unit testing and participate in system program testing
• Design, build, and maintain logical/physical data models using relational database principles
• Consult with end users, peers, and management on application issues
• Assists and mentor peers and subordinates
Qualifications:
Required:
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field
• Two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications
• Programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis
Preferred:
• Proficiency in Java programming language and frameworks
• Understanding of software development principles and best practices
• Problem solving skills and analytical skill
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with SQL Server and Oracle database development
• Oracle Application Express (APEX) Experience
• Knowledge of Nebraska Tax Programs
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)
