Job description

Position Summary
The University of Virginia Information Technology Services (ITS) department seeks an experienced Senior Workday Security Administrator to lead the design, administration, auditing, and optimization of security within the Workday ecosystem. This role is responsible for maintaining a secure, scalable, and compliant Workday environment across HCM, Finance, Payroll, Recruiting, Benefits, and other functional areas.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Workday security architecture, domain and business process security policies, role-based security administration, risk mitigation, and cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, Audit, Compliance, and Integration teams. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
This is a 2 year limited term position based on funding
Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, maintain, and optimize Workday security frameworks including role-based, user-based, intersection, and segment-based security groups
  • Administer domain and business process security policies across Workday functional areas
  • Lead security administration efforts supporting HCM, Payroll, Finance, Recruiting, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, Procurement, Accounting Center, Prism, Extend, and Integrations
  • Perform regular security audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews
  • Manage Workday access provisioning, deprovisioning, and segregation of duties (SoD) controls
  • Partner with Internal Audit, Compliance, and IT Security teams to ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Workday security issues related to reports, integrations, APIs, EIBs, RaaS, Studio integrations, and business processes
  • Participate in Workday releases by reviewing security enhancements, conducting impact assessments, performing regression testing, and implementing improvements
  • Develop and maintain security documentation, governance standards, and operational procedures
  • Mentor junior administrators and provide guidance on Workday security best practices
  • Collaborate with functional and technical teams on new implementations, acquisitions, and organizational changes
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
Experience
  • Four years of hands-on experience administering security within Workday
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Workday security architecture
    • Domain security policies
    • Business process security policies
    • Security group design
    • Authentication and authorization concepts
  • Experience supporting Workday integrations and integration security
  • Experience troubleshooting security issues related to reports, calculated fields, and integrations
  • Knowledge of audit, compliance, and segregation of duties principles including SOX, GDPR, and HIPAA
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience
  • Experience with:
    • Workday Extend
    • Workday Prism
    • Workday Accounting Center
    • Workday Orchestrate
  • Experience working within healthcare or higher education environments
  • Experience leading Workday security redesign or transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with identity management and SSO technologies including:
    • Okta
    • Azure AD
    • SAML
    • MFA
Certifications
  • Workday certifications in one or more of the following:
    • Security
    • HCM
    • Integrations
    • Financials
Physical Demands
This position primarily performs sedentary work using standard office equipment and requires the ability to communicate effectively with others.
Salary Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position is commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location
This is an exempt-level, benefited position. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in accordance with UVA policy and department needs.
