Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Patient Services Representative is the primary point of contact for patients, families, and caregivers when arriving in a department. They facilitate the patient check in process and provide patient and family centered customer service. For Intake, the Patient Services Representative is the primary point of contact for all callers contacting Fred Hutch's main phone number.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
1.0 FTE Monday through Friday - 6:45am to 3:15pm
Responsibilities
  • Greets and screens patients arriving for appointments and checks them in using an automated scheduling system.
  • Assembles and distributes appropriate paperwork to patients, families, caregivers and clinical staff.
  • Triage questions and concerns from callers and forward to appropriate staff or department as needed.
  • Performs general clerical duties including, processing mail, taking inventory and ordering office supplies.
  • Activates provider orders (Alliance Lab only).
  • May schedule patient appointments as ordered by clinician.
  • May be responsible for the facilitation of patient flow
  • Verifies demographic, clinical and financial information with patient as required.
  • Sends new patient packet information to patients as directed.
  • Routes incoming mail and medical records and express scan to HIM when needed.
  • Requests and receives diagnostic films and pathology slides as directed.
  • Routes main Fred Hutch incoming faxes to appropriate department, service or individual.
  • Answers Fred Hutch incoming calls and routes to appropriate department, service or individual.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months to one year experience in customer service environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment.
  • Effectively organize and manage time and tasks independently.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
  • Can use a mouse, navigate computer programs and use email in a professional setting.

Preferred:
  • Medical terminology.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $24.50 to $34.88 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

1.0 FTE Monday through Friday - 6:45am to 3:15pm
