Job description

Title: Insurance Eligibility Supervisor

Location: Fountain Valley

Department: Admitting

Status: Full-time

Shift: Days

Pay Range: $73,000 - $107,000/annually

Position Summary

This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Long Beach Medical Center/Miller's Children's and Woman's Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee shall support Long Beach Medical Center/Miller's Children's and Woman's Hospital strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The Admitting Insurance Verification Unit Supervisor reports directly to the Admitting Manager. The Supervisor is responsible for supervising the employees in the Pre-Registration and the Insurance Verification areas. The Supervisor ensures that the department operates efficiently and effectively by providing educational and training information to the team. Assists in completing evaluations. Stays within the department budget and works on minimizing overtime. The supervisor participates as a member of the management team and helps to resolve issues as they arise. Promotes a positive team environment and maintains effective working relationships with all team members. Fills in when needed to ensure there is coverage and that all tasks are completed. Responsible for working and updating accounts on the work-queues. Monitors and manages work queues daily to ensure the Admitting department meets the weekly dashboard goals. Employee exhibits independent judgement and has thorough understanding of department and hospital procedures.   

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Supervise and lead the activities of the team to ensure work objectives are met.
  2. Assist in improving and sustaining the department employee engagement survey score.
  3. Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource to the team in all aspects of the pre-registration/verification process.
  4. Collects data and analyzes facts to resolve problems and issues. 
  5. Monitors and manages work queues daily.
  6. Interpret insurance benefits, authorization requirements, and admission requirements.
  7. Provides outstanding customer service utilizing "Simply Better" and AIDET principles.
  8. Communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  9. Interacts in a positive and constructive manner and to promote a healthy work environment.
  10. Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource to the team in all aspects of the pre-registration/verification process.
  11. Attends workflow improvement meetings and project implementation.
  12. Assists in reducing employee turnover and helps to build employee job satisfaction.
  13. Be at work and be on time.
  14. Ability to have crucial conversations to address behavioral issues and work performance standards 
  15. Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Experience

  • Minimum of 3 or more years of supervisory experience in admitting, business office, physician office or healthcare equivalent
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with all aspects of the admitting department
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • General knowledge of insurance payors: PPO, HMO, POS, EPO, Medicare, & Medi-Cal (Los Angeles & Orange County)
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish, or English/Vietnamese) preferred.
  • Positive work ethic
  • General computer skills required including electronic medical record and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of medical terminology 

Education

       Some college preferred.

       Medical and healthcare related courses or certificate preferred.

       Epic System experience preferred.
