Job Summary
The Health Information Clerk is a vital part of the patient care process. They are responsible for organizing, maintaining, and ensuring patient health information records' accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality. This role involves processing, filing, retrieving, and protecting paper and electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) in compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and federal laws.
The Health Information Clerk must provide excellent customer service to hospital clinicians, staff, and students regarding the patient's medical record. They will be responsible for answering the department phone line, assisting clients and referral partners with requests for copies of patient records, following hospital policies and procedures throughout the process.
The Health Information Clerk must participate in quality checks to ensure accuracy and integrity of the medical records system. They will assist with compiling reports from the HIS system regarding incomplete records and report that information to the health information officer.
When necessary, the Health Information Clerk will assist with yearly record purging according to the hospital and central campus retention policies and perform other duties as needed.

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of experience in customer service, clerical, or administrative support roles.

Skills Needed:

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and EHR/EMR software.
