Job Summary
The Business, Education, and Human SciencesLibrarian is a member of a team responsible for providing general andspecialized research, instruction, outreach, and collection developmentservices. The position serves as University Libraries' (UL) primary contactwith the College of Business and Economic Development, supporting instructionaland research resource needs on the Hattiesburg and Long Beach campuses. Theposition serves as the primary contact between UL and Gulf Coast programs inthe College of Education and Human Sciences, supporting instructional andresearch resource needs. The position engages in outreach initiatives thatbuild awareness of library resources and services. Actively cultivatingrelationships with faculty, staff, and students in assigned academic areas isrequired. The primary office will be at Gulf Coast Library in Long Beach, MS.Some travel between the Long Beach and Hattiesburg campuses is required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities - Provides instruction in the use of researchresources through course-integrated instruction and stand-alone workshopspresented in person and online. Creates and maintains instructional tools,online tutorials, online guides (e.g., LibGuides), and other research tools inassigned areas.
- Provides research assistance through individual research consultations, as well as providing reference and directional assistance to library users in person, by telephone, and via electronic communication methods. May participate in library programs that supportopen access and research data management within the scope of evolving libraryservices.
- Coordinates collection development for assigned areas.
- Coordinates outreach initiatives that seek to engage students, faculty, and staff, with a non-exclusive emphasis on assigned academic areas.
- Fulfills the duties of a Patent and TrademarkResource Center representative, which include, but are not limited to,assisting with the efficient use of patent and trademark information sources, marketingand outreach, maintaining an up-to-date web presence, and tracking andreporting metrics as stipulated by the United States Patent and TrademarkOffice.
- Engages in scholarship and professionaldevelopment activities and provides service to University Libraries, theUniversity, and the library profession to fulfill the expectations of a teaching-trackfaculty member. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Performs other duties as assigned.
