Job description

Fast‐growing logistics command center start‐up focused on delivering high‐performance operational support to clients across the supply chain industry. Seeking a flexible and experienced Fractional HR Manager to build foundational HR practices, support our growing team, and help shape a people‐first culture.

The Hybrid Fractional HR Manager will serve as a strategic and hands‐on HR generalist, supporting approximately 20+ hours per month with flexibility based on business needs. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who thrives in start‐up environments, enjoys building processes from the ground up, and can balance both strategic and tactical responsibilities.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook aligned with federal and Kansas City/Lenexa employment laws.
  • Establish scalable HR processes suitable for a growing logistics command center environment.
  • Ensure compliance with labor regulations, recordkeeping requirements, and internal standards.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and leadership on workplace issues, conflict resolution, and performance concerns.
  • Provide coaching to managers on employee relations best practices.
  • Support the creation of a positive, inclusive, and high‐performance culture.

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

  • Manage full‐cycle recruiting for hourly and salaried roles, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and offer coordination.
  • Partner with leadership to forecast staffing needs as the start‐up grows.
  • Build relationships with local talent pipelines and industry networks.

Onboarding & Orientation

  • Design and deliver a structured onboarding and orientation program for new hires.
  • Ensure new employees have a smooth transition into the organization with clear expectations, training plans, and cultural integration.
  • Maintain onboarding documentation and process improvements.

Vendor & Partner Relations

  • Manage relationships with HR‐related vendors, including payroll providers, benefits brokers, background check services, and HR technology platforms.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and recommend improvements or alternatives as needed.

HR Strategy & Support

  • Advise leadership on workforce planning, organizational structure, and HR best practices.
  • Support performance management processes, including goal‐setting and feedback cycles.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to strengthen retention and employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of HR generalist experience; start‐up or logistics/supply chain experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance in Kansas.
  • Comfortable working 10+ hours per week with flexibility based on business needs.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid, occasionally going into the office in Lenexa.
  • Flexible scheduling with availability for occasional meetings or urgent HR matters.
