A grant writer researches and submits grant applications for individuals or organizations. As a grant writer, your responsibilities and duties include identifying funding sources that may support the individual’s or organization’s objectives. Grant writers research the requirements and restrictions of the grants, help decide if the grant should be pursued, then gather the required documentation to complete the application.
| Aspect | Grant Writer | Fundraiser |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Writing skills, often a background in communications or related fields | Communication, networking, and sales skills; may have fundraising certifications |
| Work Environment | Primarily office-based, focused on research and proposal writing | Varies; includes events, outreach, and donor engagement |
