Job description

Job Summary:

The Grading Foreman oversees and coordinates daily grading operations on construction projects, ensuring safe work practices, efficiency, and quality outcomes. This role is responsible for supervising crews, managing equipment utilization, and ensuring that grading work aligns with project specifications and schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

· Supervise and lead grading crews in daily operations, including excavation, embankment, fine grading, and compaction.

· Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to ensure accurate execution of grading work.

· Help coordinate the use of heavy equipment such as dozers, motor graders, scrapers, and compactors.

· Monitor progress and quality of grading work, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

· Maintain job site safety in accordance with company and OSHA standards.

· Track production and provide daily reports to the Superintendent or Project Manager.

· Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure alignment with grading plans.

· Train and mentor crew members, promoting professional growth and development.

· Monitor material usage and minimize waste.

· Assist in planning and scheduling work and resources efficiently.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in construction or civil engineering a plus.

· Minimum 5 years of heavy civil construction experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role focused on grading.

· Strong understanding of grading techniques, soil types, and compaction methods.

· Proficient in reading civil construction plans and grade stakes.

· Working knowledge of GPS and laser-based grading systems.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
