Job description

Talen Energy is seeking an experienced Engineer with working knowledge in Rotating Equipment - specifically Turbines and Generators for their fossil generation central engineering group. Candidate will support and Lead the LP Turbine and Generator work for the Baltimore plants. The position will be based out of the central engineering group in Allentown, but much of their time will be spent in the Baltimore area for the outages in the Fall of 2026 and/or Spring of 2027. After the outages are complete, the support role will shift to become a fleet-wide support engineer alongside the current rotating equipment engineers.

The position will support fleet-wide engineering initiatives for the Talen Energy fossil fleet and would serve as a subject matter expert on Turbines and Generators for multiple Northeast / Mid-Atlantic Talen Energy power plants. Specific assignments may include monitoring and assessing the condition of critical plant equipment tracking failures, performing root cause failure analysis, conducting field inspections, recommending repair or replacement approaches for equipment issues to the plants, developing short-term and long-term risk mitigation strategies, providing input into developing scoping and estimating plans for projects, preparing technical specifications, and providing technical guidance as requested to plant engineering, Contractors, and plant maintenance staff during outage and non-outage work.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the fossil plants on Turbines and Generators to identify, analyze, and resolve equipment and system problems

  • Interface with management teams, project teams, and other disciplines within the engineering group to solve complex tasks.

  • Support the plants with planning and implementation of maintenance outages.

  • Focus on maintaining or improving equipment condition and performance, being cognizant of available techniques and practices. Identify and assist in resolution of emergent equipment issues.

  • Coordinate with vendors as applicable, for related products and services.

  • Prepare and maintain necessary technical documentation and operating and performance history records.

  • Assist plant maintenance and operations with troubleshooting activities during planned or forced outage events

  • Assist in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects.

  • Use existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.

  • Build relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.

  • Assist in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or new or better equipment purchase recommendations.

What You Have

Basic Qualifications

Senior Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years' related engineering experience.

Principal Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience, with recognized expertise in power plant engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with large rotating equipment (specifically turbines and generators).

  • Experience in working with steam turbines and combustion turbines.

  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, and lubrication monitoring.

  • Professional Engineer registration in Pennsylvania (for principal engineer position)
