Job Summary

Vistra is looking for a highly experienced Main Turbine and Generator Engineer to support the nuclear power plants in the Vistra fleet. This position is primarily responsible for supporting strategic decision-making around turbine and generator upgrades during uprates and other major projects. The Turbine/Generator Engineer will also support the turbine outages in an advisory capacity.
In this role, the Turbine/Generator Engineer will be involved in working with site and fleet personnel to determine the work scope for Turbine outages associated major projects. Coordination with vendors to perform studies on necessary upgrades, identify risks, and establish clear plans for moving forward. Following creation of plan, this individual will be expected to aid in the implementation of the plan. Provide oversight of in-house and vendor implementation of field work to support major upgrades.
The selected candidate must be cognizant of internal and external operating experience for turbines and generators and actively participate in the Industry Turbine User's Group.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provideproactiveengineeringforthe nuclear power plant Main Turbines and Generators to improve overall plant reliability.
  • Ensure that the Main Turbines and Generators are monitored and analyzed and that issues are proactively identified and resolved.
  • Ensurelongrangeimprovementplansforkey Turbine and Generator assets requiring attention such as obsolete equipment, vulnerabilities from OE, upgrades that would result in operational or financial benefits, and determining and reporting Maintenance Rule availability.
  • Provide innovative engineering solutions for difficult problems.
  • Assess and resolve potential conditions adverse to quality.
  • Must have knowledge and previous experience working with Turbines and Generators.

Education, Experience & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science Engineering degree or related Science degree from a college or university with an accredited engineering program.
  • 14+ years experience with a minimum of 2 yrs nuclear engineering experience ideal
  • At least 6+ years' experience with Turbines and Generators is required. Both Siemens and GE steam turbine experience is desired.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear plant processes/programs.
  • Recognized within Vistra as a SME. Known and used by many as a technical resource.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of current and pending regulatory, code and general industry issues to resolve Vistra's interests.
  • Proficient with business/technical evaluation processes.

  • Qualified to prepare complex design changes.
  • Prepare engineering reports.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established expectations for nuclear safety and personnel safety.
  • May be responsible for developing other employees in area of expertise.
  • Serves a lead role on projects, teams, processes, or programs.
  • One of few who possess abilities not easily gained and of significant depth in specific area(s) of expertise.

Travel is expected as a part of this position - less than 25%.
