Job description

Description:

As a Field Service Generator Technician, you will be responsible for accurately troubleshooting, repairing, and diagnosing power generation and distribution equipment while making repair recommendations to customers. You will perform warranty work per manufactureโ€™s guidelines, perform start-up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems, as well as performing preventative maintenance on emergency power systems. This position requires working alone or with other Field Service Generator Technicians to ensure all work scheduled is performed safely and to the customer's satisfaction.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, diagnose, repair engine driven and electrical industrial generators, transfer switches, and switchgear systems
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, load bank, and have knowledge of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATSโ€™s) and generator controls
  • Diagnose and inspect systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating operational condition, identifying necessary repairs, failures, and recommend preventive maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance on generators and other related equipment contracted through Current Edge Solutions
  • Repair or replace defective electrical or mechanical parts, as required to bring the equipment up to specifications
  • Provide written field service reports to customers at the completion of all services
  • Explain and defend warranty decisions; generate and communicate service bulletins to customers
  • Manage projects, as assigned and provide guidance, assistance, and training to other technicians
  • Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues
  • Provide superior customer service by answering any questions/addressing concerns, providing appropriate documentation and explanations of service such as parts used & work performed
  • Maintain stock and tools in service vehicle
  • Additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with a generator OEM manufacturer as a technician
  • Excellent working knowledge of power generation components, AC & DC power, electronic controls, and fuel systems
  • Proficient with computers and field service software
  • Ability to work well under pressure, in all weather conditions 24/7
  • Ability to handle multiple duties and tasks safely
  • Able to read electrical schematics and equipment mechanical drawings
  • Must have basic hand tools
  • Familiar with all types of test equipment including, but not limited to, AC and DC test equipment, high current/low impedance ohmmeters, digital multi-meters, & power quality analyzers
  • Organized and focused, with excellent time management
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Self-motivated with a background of following established procedures as well as engaging in complex problem-solving to provide solutions to generator issues in the field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be available and willing to work after hours, weekends, holidays, as well as rotating on-call shifts
  • Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment as well as a forklift in accordance with OSHA regulations

  • Travel: Up to 20% outside local area (company paid travel)

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies.
