Your role and responsibilities

The Sales Support Specialist is responsible for supporting and expanding ABB's generator business with Caterpillar in Lafayette, Indiana, while also providing technical and commercial support to the Motion High Power (MOHP) North America Sales team. This role serves as a key liaison between customers, sales, and the Generator Business Line, delivering application expertise, developing commercial solutions, and driving growth across the North American generator market.

The work model for the role is: remote within two hours of Layfette, Indiana.

Your role and responsibilities:

Caterpillar Account Support and Growth

  • Serve as the primary sales support resource for the Caterpillar account in Lafayette, IN.

  • Work as a link between ABB NAM, Global CAT teams and ABB Global account teams

  • Build strong customer relationships and identify opportunities to increase ABB's market share.

  • Develop and deliver timely generator proposals that meet customer application requirements.

  • Provide business insights and recommendations to ABB leadership to support account growth and strategic initiatives.

Technical and Commercial Sales Support

  • Support MOHP North America sales teams with technical expertise and commercial solutions for generator opportunities.

  • Evaluate customer requirements and recommend optimal generator solutions in collaboration with the Generator Business Line.

  • Participate in customer meetings, technical presentations, negotiations, and training activities.

  • Act as a subject matter expert for industrial generator applications and assist in resolving customer challenges.

  • Market Intelligence and Business Development

  • Monitor North American generator market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity.

  • Analyze wins, losses, and market opportunities to improve ABB's competitive position and sales effectiveness.

  • Contribute technical content, market insights, and risk assessment information to support business objectives and strategic planning.

Location and Travel Requirements

  • Must reside within approximately two hours of Lafayette, Indiana.

  • Expected travel requirement: approximately 25%.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sales, applications engineering, or technical support for industrial rotating equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with industrial generators, motors, or other rotating electrical equipment.

  • Strong technical problem-solving and customer-facing skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, sales teams, engineering teams, and leadership.

  • Experience developing technical proposals and commercial solutions.

  • Knowledge of industrial power generation applications and markets within North America.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $68,600 and $109,760 annually and is bonus eligible.
