Centurion is proud to be a leading provider of comprehensive healthcare services to correctional facilities, state hospitals, and community mental health centers nationwide.
We are currently seeking a full- time Payroll Accountant to join our corporate payroll team.
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for processing, reconciling, and ensuring the accuracy of payroll transactions while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires proficiency with automated payroll and timekeeping systems, preferably Paycom, as well as payroll tax laws and financial reconciliation. The Payroll Accountant collaborates with Finance and HR to ensure seamless payroll operations and drive continuous process improvements.
Payroll Processing & Accounting
  • Process multi-state payroll transactions accurately and timely using Paycom software.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with company policies, wage laws, and tax regulations.
  • Reconcile payroll data with the general ledger and financial reports.
  • Validate timekeeping, deductions, benefits, and earnings for accuracy before payroll submission.
  • Manage payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, and off-cycle payrolls.

Payroll Tax & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Prepare, review, and reconcile payroll tax filings, including 941, W-2, and 1099 reports.
  • Monitor payroll tax law changes and implement necessary adjustments in Paycom.
  • Maintain proper documentation to support payroll tax filings and audits.

Financial Reconciliation & Reporting
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
  • Generate and analyze payroll reports for Finance, HR, and leadership.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing accurate payroll documentation.
  • Identify payroll trends and recommend areas for cost optimization.

Paycom System Management & Optimization
  • Utilize Paycom software to manage payroll, tax filings, and reporting.
  • Identify and resolve payroll system issues and data inconsistencies.
  • Stay updated on Paycom enhancements and implement best practices for efficiency.
  • Support payroll system integrations with HR and accounting platforms.

Employee Support & Issue Resolution
  • Address payroll discrepancies and resolve employee pay concerns promptly.
  • Serve as the primary payroll point of contact for Finance, HR, and employees.
  • Provide clear guidance on payroll-related policies, benefits deductions, and compliance matters.

Process Improvement & Compliance Monitoring
  • Regularly audit payroll processes to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Assist in developing payroll policies, procedures, and contingency plans.
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records and ensure accurate historical data retention.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll accounting experience in a mid-to-large-sized organization.
  • Strong experience with Paycom payroll software (processing, reporting, and tax compliance).
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws and payroll reconciliation.
  • Experience working with general ledger payroll accounting.
  • Experience processing payroll in a unionized environment and interpreting collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of union payroll practices, including union dues, wage scales, and contract-specific pay provisions preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in payroll calculations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and financial analysis).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential payroll data.
