What is a freelance marketing manager?

A Freelance Marketing Manager is an independent professional who develops and implements marketing strategies for businesses on a contract basis. They handle tasks such as branding, digital marketing, social media management, advertising, and market research. Unlike in-house marketing managers, freelancers work with multiple clients and have flexible schedules. Their responsibilities vary based on client needs, making adaptability and expertise in different marketing channels essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance marketing manager?

To thrive as a Freelance Marketing Manager, you need a deep understanding of marketing strategy, digital channels, content creation, and analytics, often supported by a degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, social media management platforms, and CRM systems, as well as certifications like HubSpot or Google Ads, are highly valuable. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help freelancers build client relationships and deliver projects independently. These capabilities are crucial for effectively managing diverse client needs, executing campaigns across platforms, and driving measurable results.

What kinds of clients or industries do freelance marketing managers typically work with?

Freelance Marketing Managers often work with a wide range of clients—from small businesses and startups to larger corporations—across industries like technology, retail, healthcare, and more. The diversity of projects can include developing marketing strategies, managing ad campaigns, creating content calendars, and analyzing performance metrics. This variety allows you to gain valuable experience in multiple sectors while building a versatile portfolio. Working with different clients enhances your adaptability, and strong client management skills will help ensure successful ongoing collaborations and referrals.

Can you be a freelance marketing manager?

Success in this role typically requires strong skills in digital marketing tools, communication, and the ability to manage multiple clients independently.

Can you work from home as a freelance marketing manager?

Yes, freelance marketing managers often work remotely, leveraging digital tools like email, video conferencing, and project management software. Many clients prefer remote work for flexibility, and freelance marketing managers can set their own schedules and work from any location with internet access.

How much does a freelance marketing manager make?

Freelance marketing managers typically earn between $25 and $150 per hour, depending on experience, industry, and project scope. Annual income varies widely, often ranging from $50,000 to over $150,000 for experienced professionals working on multiple clients or large campaigns.

Job description

We are looking for a results-driven Marketing Manager – Americas to own regional pipeline growth across AI and non-AI offers. This role is responsible for building and executing country-specific go-to-market plans, improving lead quality and conversion, and identifying the channels, markets, offers, and messages that generate real pipeline. You will work closely with SDRs, sales leaders, partnerships, agencies, freelancers, and global marketing teams to diagnose funnel gaps, optimize regional spend, and drive measurable growth across key AMER markets.

What Success Looks Like:

  • AMER hits pipeline targets with clear visibility by country, offer, and channel
  • Opportunity volume and quality improve, not just MQL volume
  • Underperforming markets have clear recovery plans and measurable progress
  • Regional spend shifts toward channels and countries that produce real pipeline
  • Sales trusts marketing because leads are relevant, timely, and convert
  • Partnerships become a meaningful pipeline channel, not just conversations
  • Leadership receives clear answers on what is working, what is not, and what needs to change

*This is a hybrid position based in San Francisco *

Responsibilities:
  • Own AMER regional pipeline targets across AI and non-AI offers
  • Build and execute the AMER marketing plan by country, segment, and channel
  • Improve lead quality, conversion to opportunity, and pipeline efficiency — not just top-of-funnel volume
  • Identify why we win or lose by market, channel, offer, and competitor
  • Drive country-specific GTM plays for key AMER markets based on actual buying behavior, local channels, and competitive context
  • Work closely with SDRs, sales leaders, partnerships, and global marketing to improve SMQL to SQO to pipeline conversion
  • Diagnose funnel leaks and fix them quickly across messaging, targeting, qualification logic, routing, landing pages, offers, follow-up, and channel mix
  • Build regional growth through a mix of paid campaigns, events, partnerships, affiliates, field marketing, and localized testing
  • Create practical 30/60/90-day plans for underperforming markets and execute against them
  • Push for clarity, accountability, and measurable output across agencies, contractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Recruit and manage regional freelancers or agencies where needed

Requirements:
  • Proven experience in B2D regional, demand generation, growth, or field marketing roles, ideally across the Americas
  • Strong understanding of pipeline generation, funnel conversion, lead quality, and sales-marketing alignment
  • Experience building and executing multi-channel marketing plans across paid, events, partnerships, affiliates, field marketing, and localized campaigns
  • Ability to analyze performance by country, channel, offer, segment, and competitor, and translate insights into action
  • Strong collaboration skills with sales, SDR, partnerships, global marketing, agencies, and external vendors
  • Hands-on approach to diagnosing funnel issues and improving conversion across the full buyer journey
  • Comfortable operating with revenue targets, clear KPIs, and accountability for measurable business outcomes
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and project management skills
  • Experience managing freelancers, agencies, or contractors is a plus
  • Familiarity with AI, data, SaaS, or technology markets is a plus
