Job description

PHA Health, an innovative company focused on providing health plans that are affordable, sustainable and promote well-being through preventive care and patient advocacy, is seeking a Controller to join our finance team. This role leads accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective cash flow management. The Controller will also oversee and develop the accounting team while supporting the company's strategic financial objectives.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and lead accounting staff, including conducting regular team meetings and performance reviews.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to team members and business partners.
  • Establish and maintain accurate financial reporting systems, including the chart of accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial reporting, including month-end close processes.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls related to cash receipts, disbursements, payroll, revenue, and job costing.
  • Review account reconciliations on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • Manage and monitor company cash flow, including monthly forecasting.
  • Assist with or lead the annual budgeting process, including coordination with department leaders and executive leadership.
  • Provide monthly budget-to-actual reporting and conduct quarterly budget review meetings.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, including vendor relationships, and payment approvals.
  • Review job costing and gross profit reporting to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate annual tax preparation processes with external partners.
  • Maintain relationships with banking and insurance partners, including reporting and policy management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Participate in strategic planning, management meetings, and company initiatives.

A successful candidate will have a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have progressive accounting experience. Strong knowledge of excel, internal controls, budgeting, and cost accounting is required. The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams is essential.
