GURSTEL LAW FIRM, P.C. – LAW CLERK

JOB SUMMARY as a Law Clerk, you will research substantive issues of federal and state law, draft legal memoranda, and pleadings, and be able to attend court proceedings with attorneys. In addition, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Assist with all legal research, draft research memorandums for attorney review
  • Document account/file activity in accordance with the Firm and client policies into the Firm’s system of record.
  • Draft correspondence, including correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and the court
  • Draft and generate motions and pleadings for state and federal court matters, including complaints, replies to counterclaims, discovery requests and responses, motions for summary judgment, motions for default, etc. for attorney review.
  • Monitor litigation files to final adjudication.
  • Draft settlement agreements, stipulations, and confessions of judgment
  • Review contracts for relevant provisions and assist attorneys in recommendations for legal action
  • Assist with trial preparation, depositions, mediation and arbitration.
  • Assist Attorneys in preparing files for court, depositions mediation and arbitration
  • Attend observe court hearings with attorneys as available to see process.
  • File documents with the courts via the traditional and electronic filing methods, as applicable
  • If applicable, communicate with clients, as needed, regarding contested litigation matters.
  • Perform general clerical duties as needed.
  • Maintain a courteous, professional, and cooperative attitude
  • Demonstrates the Firm’s Core Values.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Current law school student (2nd or 3rd year preferred) or graduate
  • Classes taken in civil procedure, business corporate law, contracts and corporate law preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in legal studies, especially civil litigation, contracts and writing courses
  • Westlaw and/or Lexis experience preferred
  • Background in collection law is helpful
  • Basic knowledge of the civil legal process
  • Verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Must be a quick learner with good problem-solving skills.
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once, ability to prioritize deadlines and commitments
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Self-Starter and motivated
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly with Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with others in other office locations and jurisdictions
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, lift, or carry up to 20 pounds
  • A dependable work ethic and commitment to providing quality service is a must.
  • Typing and keyboarding experience with 50+ WPM required.
  • Collection Law knowledge is helpful.
