Executive Strategy information

What is Executive Strategy?

Executive Strategy refers to the process by which top-level leaders, such as CEOs and senior executives, develop and implement plans to achieve an organization's long-term objectives. This involves analyzing internal and external factors, setting goals, allocating resources, and making decisions that guide the overall direction of the company. Executive strategists often collaborate with other leaders to ensure alignment across departments and to adapt to changing market conditions. Their work is critical for sustaining growth, competitive advantage, and organizational success.

What is the difference between Executive Strategy vs Business Development Manager?

Executive Strategy focuses on high-level strategic planning and long-term organizational growth, often requiring advanced degrees and experience in strategic roles. Both roles are vital for company growth but differ in scope, responsibilities, and skill sets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Executive Strategy professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Executive Strategy professional, you need strong analytical thinking, business acumen, and a background in business administration or a related field, often supported by an MBA or equivalent experience. Familiarity with strategic planning tools, data analytics platforms, and financial modeling software is typically required. Outstanding leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies enable effective decision-making, drive organizational growth, and ensure successful implementation of strategic initiatives.

How does an Executive Strategy professional typically collaborate with other departments to drive company-wide initiatives?

Executive Strategy professionals play a pivotal role in aligning departmental objectives with the organization's long-term goals. They frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with leaders from finance, operations, marketing, and product teams to ensure initiatives are strategically sound and feasible. Regular meetings, strategic workshops, and project management tools are commonly used to maintain clear communication and accountability. This collaborative approach not only helps break down silos but also ensures that strategic decisions are informed by diverse perspectives and expertise.

Job description

Manager of Executive Operations & Strategy - RGI events

Reports To: CEO

Works Closely With: CEO, Chief of Staff, Leadership Team

Location: Fully In Person, Alexandria VA Domestic and International Travel

Compensation: $78,000 - $82,000 base + performance bonus + benefits

Company Overview

RGI Events is a strategic event production and hospitality company with an 18-year track record of excellence. We partner with non-profits, policy organizations, corporations, and government entities to design and execute large-scale, high-impact events that advance fundraising, training, sales, communications, and mission-critical initiatives.

In recent years, RGI has expanded beyond event production into hospitality and lifestyle ventures, including a high-end dining and events establishment and a developing cydery and agricultural enterprise. These ventures reflect our belief that experience, design, and strategy are deeply interconnected.

RGI is founder-led, entrepreneurial, and execution-driven. Our leadership team values discretion, judgment, creativity, and operational rigor — and we operate at a consistently high standard.

Position Summary

RGI seeks a highly capable, polished, and intuitive Manager of Executive Strategy & Operations to serve as a trusted right hand to the CEO and a core partner to the Chief of Staff.

This role is designed for a senior executive support professional who combines strategic thinking, operational excellence, and high-touch service. The Manager of Executive Strategy & Operations will function as a strategic sounding board to the CEO while maintaining direct ownership of executive support, office management, and personal/property operations.

While this role does not set company strategy, it plays a critical role in synthesizing information, pressure-testing plans, anticipating needs, and translating executive priorities into actionable, well-sequenced execution. The position sits adjacent to the leadership team and requires sound judgment, discretion, dependability, and comfort operating across both business and personal domains.

Core Responsibilities

Executive Strategy Support & Sounding Board

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to the CEO, offering perspective on priorities, trade-offs, and sequencing.
  • Synthesize information across business lines, properties, and personal commitments to surface patterns, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare executive briefings, decision frameworks, and summaries that support high-quality decision-making.
  • Pressure-test timelines and plans in partnership with the Chief of Staff to ensure feasibility and alignment.
  • Track executive-level priorities and ensure strategic decisions are translated into operational follow-through.

Executive & Administrative Support

  • Manage complex calendars spanning business, personal, travel, and family commitments.
  • Coordinate correspondence, meeting logistics, agendas, and follow-ups.
  • Handle high-level communications with internal leaders, clients, vendors, and partners with professionalism and discretion.
  • Anticipate conflicts or gaps and proactively resolve them before escalation.
  • Maintain confidentiality across all executive, financial, and personal matters.

Office & Administrative Operations

  • Own day-to-day RGI office operations, including facilities, vendors, supplies, and systems.
  • Manage administrative workflows to ensure efficiency, organization, and consistency with RGI’s standards.
  • Support HR, onboarding, payroll coordination, and expense management in partnership with the Chief of Staff.
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for internal logistics, scheduling, and administrative communication.
  • Ensure the office environment reflects RGI’s professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail.

Personal & Property Management

  • Oversee operational management for multiple residential properties, including active renovation and expansion projects.
  • Coordinate contractors, architects, designers, and service providers; track timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Manage household staff and service teams (nanny, driver, maintenance, equestrian-related vendors, pet care).
  • Maintain systems for property documentation, contracts, invoices, and ongoing maintenance schedules.
  • Support family logistics, scheduling, travel coordination, and personal administrative needs.

Travel, Hospitality & Lifestyle Coordination

  • Plan and manage complex, luxury travel itineraries for business and personal travel, often across multiple destinations.
  • Coordinate accommodations, transportation, dining, and on-the-ground logistics with precision.
  • Support wardrobe shipments, event attendance logistics, and travel documentation as needed.
  • Ensure seamless transitions between professional and personal travel demands.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience & Background

  • 7–10+ years supporting a CEO, founder, or principal in a senior executive support capacity.
  • Strong preference for backgrounds in event production, hospitality, luxury services, private family offices, or founder-led organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing properties, renovations, vendors, and household operations.
  • Proven ability to balance professional and personal support with discretion and maturity.

Skills & Attributes

  • Exceptionally organized, systems-driven, and detail-oriented.
  • Strategic thinker with strong pattern recognition and prioritization skills.
  • Calm, composed, and resourceful under pressure.
  • Polished communicator with high emotional intelligence.
  • Strong service mindset paired with executive-level judgment and confidence.
  • Tech-fluent (Google Workspace, Asana/Monday.com, Expensify, cloud-based tools).
  • Comfortable operating in high-performance, luxury-adjacent environments.

Reporting & Leadership Alignment

The Manager of Executive Strategy & Operations works directly with the CEO and in close daily partnership with the Chief of Staff and occupies a place adjacent to the company leadership team.

  • The Chief of Staff owns company strategy, team leadership, and operational oversight.
  • This role supports the CEO through synthesis, preparation, execution, and administrative ownership, ensuring strategic intent is reflected in daily operations.

The roles are complementary and designed to strengthen leadership effectiveness and organizational clarity.

Key Success Indicators

  • The CEO’s time, priorities, and energy are protected and optimized.
  • Office operations run smoothly, professionally, and without friction.
  • Property and renovation projects remain on track, on budget, and well-coordinated.
  • Strategic decisions are supported by clear information, preparation, and follow-through.
  • The CEO and Chief of Staff experience meaningful relief from administrative and logistical burden.
  • The role functions as a trusted, stabilizing presence across business and personal domains.

Why This Role Is Unique

This is not a traditional executive assistant role — nor is it a standalone strategy position. It is a high-trust, high-impact role designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, service, and discretion.

The right candidate will be deeply embedded in the CEO’s world, adjacent to leadership, and instrumental in enabling the next phase of RGI’s growth.
