Job Description

The Event Manager - Academic Conferences is a key member of the Mendoza Events & Engagement Team (MEET). This role is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of high-profile academic conferences and events that advance the scholarly mission of the Mendoza College of Business. The Event Manager leads the end-to-end planning and execution of complex events, ensuring they are seamless and strategically aligned with the Mendoza brand. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Consultation: Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to define event goals and design comprehensive project plans.
  • Logistics Management: Oversee all operational aspects, including venue selection, contract negotiation, catering, audiovisual needs, and transportation.
  • Financial Oversight: Develop and manage event budgets, track expenses, and ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with University policies.
  • Marketing & Communications: Coordinate with the marketing team to manage event websites, registration platforms (Cvent), and promotional materials.
  • On-Site Execution: Lead on-site teams and vendors during events to ensure high-quality delivery and immediate problem-solving.
  • Post-Event Analysis: Conduct debriefs and analyze data to measure success and provide recommendations for future improvements.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in event planning or project management, preferably in a higher education or corporate setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in event management software (e.g., Cvent), project management tools, and the Google Suite.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Experience: Experience specifically managing academic or research-focused conferences.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Advanced relationship management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including senior faculty and external VIPs.
  • Adaptability: Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Information

Compensation: Up to $68,000, commensurate with experience.
