Farm Startup Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Farm Startup Coordinator is responsible for supporting the successful startup and transition of newly managed farms, newly expanded farms, and breed projects. This position serves as a primary communication link between Professional Swine Management (PSM), farm ownership, contractors, vendors, and farm leadership teams to ensure startup activities are completed on schedule and according to expectations.

The Farm Startup Coordinator will work closely with Production Managers, veterinarians, farm managers, and senior leadership to coordinate project timelines, monitor startup progress, communicate updates to stakeholders, and assist with the implementation of SOP’S.

This position is expected to travel extensively and support multiple farm startups throughout the company's management footprint.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Startup Coordination amp; Project Support

  • Assist with planning and coordinating all phases of new farm startups and management strategies.
  • Maintain startup timelines and track completion of critical milestones.
  • Coordinate activities among farm ownership, PSM leadership, contractors, vendors, and farm staff.
  • Monitor startup progress and proactively communicate potential concerns or delays.
  • Assist in preparing farms for animal placement and operational readiness.
  • Ensure required equipment, supplies, and resources are available according to startup schedules.

Communication amp; Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a primary communication contact during startup activities.
  • Provide regular updates to farm ownership, senior leadership regarding progress, timelines, and outstanding issues.
  • Document action items, responsibilities, and follow-up activities.
  • Facilitate communication between operational teams and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in coordinating startup meetings and preparing status reports.

Operational Implementation

  • Support implementation of company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new farm management teams.
  • Help ensure biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards are established and followed during startup.
  • Conduct site visits and assist with resolving operational challenges.
  • Identify opportunities to improve startup processes and operational efficiency.

Administrative amp; Reporting

  • Maintain accurate startup records, reports, and project documentation.
  • Prepare startup progress summaries for management.
  • Track completion of startup-related objectives and deliverables.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by management.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Follow all biosecurity protocols and animal welfare standards.
  • Promote a safe work environment and reinforce company safety initiatives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assisting/supporting other farms within the company’s management footprint, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 1-3 years of swine production, livestock management or, agricultural operations experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Business Management, Project Management, or related field and

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS amp; ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to interact professionally with farm owners, employees, contractors, and management.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance from senior leadership.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat and be on feet for up to 10 hours per day
  • Frequent bending, reaching, pulling, lifting – occasionally lifting and pulling up to 100 lbs with assistance of another team member
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in noise levels that may require hearing protection in some areas
  • Ability to display a high level of respect to team members and animals
  • Willingness to travel on a daily basis (some overnight travel is required)
